There was a fire on Monday night which destroyed four of the charter RIBS on B pontoon. By the time I saw it the RIBS had been removed but the molten fenders, charred pontoons and pollution control were still there. Fortunately for me my boat is 3 or 4 empty spaces away (next boat along on the photo below).

I don't know the cause.

Blimey.. how did that happen?
Your boat ok.. canvas not damaged from sparks or anything Nick. never mind that blue gel?

Thats lucky for you. Was that Solent RIB Charter 'coz we've chartered their boats in the past? Black 'n yellow Ribcrafts? How did the fire start?

Nick, wow that looks like a lucky escape to me.

Be interesting to learn what occured - the damaged boats were moved away rather quickly!
or are they sunk?

I'm not sure how it happened, or whether the boats were sunk. There were divers on the scene, which I guess suggests that at least one of them sunk. There were also signs on the pontoon, warning people not to smoke as there had been a serious fuel leak.

I guess it could have been a spark off the battery, or maybe a charger fault if one of the batteries was being charged at the time. There's obvioulsy a fairly limited number of ways that a moored RIB can catch fire, so I suppose you can't completely rule out vandelism as a possible cause?

I'm pleased to report there was no damage at all to my boat

Delighted to hear that!

A couple of year ago there was a fire in Puerto Solento and witnesses said that the air was filled with bits of canvas/ sunbella stuff on fire drifting about in the breeze. The prompt attention by marina staff who moved the adjacent boats off the pontoon saved the day but people could not believe that more boats did not catch alight from the 'fall-out' in the air.

Amazing when you think about it.
