hi, T&G pine as lining for the cabin and wheelhouse roof, and as panels around the boat.

is it better to paint it a light colour, or is there a way i can "varnish" it without it looking dull/dark in a years time?

paint has been suggested by my chippie, with hardwood battens to contrast it. what do you lot think?

cheers, steve.

I am currently fitting out the galley in "Swallow", my 1917 gaff ketch, using vertical pine matchboarding panels painted ivory, which contrast well with the deep gold of the varnished Blackwood [Acacia Melanoxylon] benchtop, etc. This in turn stands out well from the honey colour of the varnished NZ Kauri cupboard framing. I am pleased with the result, and have had a number of favourable comments from respected boatbuilders.

I'll try to get some pictures when the galley is more or less complete. At the moment it is components awaiting other components to be completed before assembly. Parts which hve been done, like the engine box, are looking good enough to encourage me to continue.
