Fingers that can't pull ropes

My mum suffered from arthritis and her doctors advice in the 80's was to go and live in the warm. They went to Spain and never came back.

I cop it in my thumbs, toes, knees and shoulder. I'm rather hoping that life in teh warm aleviates it cos I hate the thought of being dependent on tablets.

I'm told that a low red meat diet with lots of vegetables, no smoking and no alcohol can help, but it's not that bad yet!

Mrs 789 has some osteoarthritis in her knee, which can be pretty painful. She tells me that a good session of - ahem - "marital pleasures" puts the pain away completely, albeit for a limited period of time. I presume that it is related to endorphin production? Might be worth consideration for any sufferers?

Since this thread took off, I've started taking glucosamine for a dodgy knee and I have noticed a net improvement since.

A close relative has an old dog which couldn't get up. The vet suggested glucosamine and the dog is managing the stairs now. Can't be psychosomatic.
