I went for bungee loops over toggles inside. In the cockpit I used rubber bonnet catches (like you see on rally cars). They worked perfectly but the galvanised part quickly went rusty. I don't know if you can get better quality versions

I drilled a little hole end of lever and fitted short length of sink plug chain, outside a large chromed key ring. worked a treat

Interesting idea - might be worth looking at doing something similar.

Piece of string through the finger-breaker hole, attached to the catch lever? Have to be nimble or you get a rap on the knuckles...

Thats what I used but I had the posh version - I put a monkeys fist on the end of the string.
