Does anyone out there have any experience of or feed back etc. of the product FindMeSpot. It is a satellite based position giving, message (text or email) sending, assistance requesting gismo. Does it work, does it do what they say it does and are they sufficiently well established to keep providing the service for a reasonable amount of years to come?

No personal experiences but there was a link on liveaboard few days ago. Some claims of rather spotty coverage and unsatisfactory support. Most reviewers used the SPOT on hiking trips though so possibly not so much of a problem at sea. The GPS chip however does seem to be an old design and requires several minutes for a fix. Some have also criticised that due to the nature of the Globalstar network you can't get any feedback hence being unable to tell whether your message got through. Not the most practical thing in case of emergency.
Turned me off a bit.

Have a look on the Jester forum too. Paul_East_Coast used one on the Azores as did a few others. I think so long as they are set up properly they seem to work very well.
