I tried various methods.I think it was through the Yachting monthly personel column……female rew wanted for sailing cruise or words to that effect.I think I hand about three replies y letter and one a phone call from the IOW ….two women 
…unfortunately or not I was convalescing with a damaged hand,but the general tone of the conversation didn’t seem to fit with a Mashford Four tonner,at least not two.Having left the coasters and getting ready to sail off into the blue but still hoping someone would turn up I put an add in the local IOW paper.A pleasant girl turned up on the quay in Newport but on looking about she was non comital even after I showed her my car cassette player.Casuallymeeting somebody who thinks the same and is keen enough to drop every thin on reflection was asking a lot
In the end I set off with a friend and we parted ways in La Rochelle after motoring through the Brittany canal with the seagull ……..the rest is history met my wife in Vigo ,someone I should have met ten years before
