I am soon hoping to purchase a Westerly Merlin or Sadler 29, but can anyone tell me is there an easy way to find a mooring? I want to keep it on the South or South West coasts, but can't afford the south coast marina prices. How does one go about finding a swinging/pile/pontoon or even an occasional drying mooring without having to contact every boat yard etc. listed in the almanac.
In other words is there such a thing as a Register of available moorings?

If anyone can suggest anywhere where moorings might be available next season (I'll join a Club if necessary) I would be grateful.

I don't think you'll find a register of moorings - they're in great demand so there's no reason why anyone would bother.

I wanted my boat in Chichester harbour and had to accept a mooring in an area I didn't want. I then politely and persitently badgered the moorings officer and after a while he moved me to where I wanted to be.

Really, the only readily available or cheap moorings are such as no one really wants them. I've heard a great way is to wait until winter then do a tour of harbour masters etc with cash in hand...

Contact the local harbour office in the area you wish to moor and they should give you a list of all the mooring contractors in their area.

The only way to go is by water
