Finding a 12inch 12v computer screen

I'm trying to find a simple computer screen display to flat mount on the bulkhead in my nav station. It doesn't have to be waterproof or touch screen. It does have to be 11 or 12 inches, low power, 12v and dim-able

Normal computer screens seem to be 19' minimum and car DVD screens all seem to be very small.

Any ideas?

How about USB powered - try the Lilliput & Mimo ones from Amazon.
10" ones are about £170 - ie not cheap but convenient as only one cable needed.
 
I have a 7" one of those TV's 12volt and VGA. Consumes 10W on 12 volts. Cost £58.09

Took a long time to come from Hong Kong - First one was lost in transit. Second one sent arrived within 5 days.

It worked well as an extension screen for the netbook when I tried it out at home once but as it does not have freeview it has lost favour with SWMBO.

It is unmarked and as new, still in it's original box and has all the accessories - Stand, remote, mains adaptor, VGA cable, aerial lead, 12v/car adaptor, earphone and AV cable.

The picture quality is very good either on analogue TV or as a remote display for the netbook (on memory map).

I have no longer any use for it but imagine the screen is too small for the OP. I would sell it for a reasonable offer if it was of use to someone.

At the time I was looking for one I found that 10" screen monitors with VGA were very expensive. Smaller low cost TV sets are now mainly mains operated and cannot be powered directly by 12 volts.

I don't understand much of what everybody has said before because I glaze over when people start to talk about watts amps VGA and other foreign words.

I might be completely off track, but I recently bought a portable flat screen digital tv from Maplins which comes with a cigarette lighter end so I assume it works off the the 12v if I wanted it to. It is a tv, radio, photo frame etc.

When I bought it you had the choice of buying it brand spanking or sort of grade II, which being a cheapskate I went for. Have no idea which is was grade II as I couldn't find a thing wrong with it. Think it was a bit over 50 quid.

Im building a low power 12v pc for running navigation software. Spent ages looking for a suitable monitor at the right price in the end I found just what I wanted. I picked up a sanyo monitor of ebay for a fiver. It is what they call an EPOS monitor (stands for electronic point of sale) and is 12". Not all but most of these monitors run off 12volts with an external mains power supply. Now you will have to make a small 12vdc voltage regulator to run it off the boat batteries as these could be up to 14.4v with the engine running or shore power on but thats not expensive or hard to make.

these monitors are also very durable as they are industrial quality designed for being on for hours on end on a supermarket checkout. they all seem to be in the 10 - 12 " size aswell.

I also found on ebay a stainless steel water proof keyboard with built in trackball - which just couldnt be better for navigation software. Its panel mounting too so can be set into a suitable surface at the chart table. This was just £17 with the postage. its like this one currently on ebay (but was a fair bit cheaper):

Its very well made again industrial I believe they are designed for those kiosks where you crop and print your own digital photos etc.

IM using a mini itx motherboard which is very economical. you can buy 12v power supllies for these too on ebay.

if you want I can take a picture of the monitor and post it

Forgot to say the monitor takes only 1 amp on full brightness. hit one button and its goes to standby about 150ma.

so far PC and monitor on =2amp, Pc monitor standby 1.1amp. that includes usb GPS recevier and a normal hard disk. trying to get windows and tsunami99 to run of a flash card so no moving parts but I have reached my limits with this so its work in progress.
