I can't beleive how good it is....not been run for three years....new spark pug and HT lead and a new throtle cable..( hardle broke the bank ) and away she whent on the fourth pull......

its good to have and english made item.

Good grief, man, you're spoiling that engine! You'll be telling us next that you've changed the gearbox oil or something else equally excessive! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Know the feeling, Bob. It's a bit of history that you kind of want to support but wonder if you're not making a big mistake. The Silver Century I have is beaten up looking but runs great now I've stopped the carb float from sticking and drives my little displacement boat so much better than the Merc 4hp I now use on the inflatable.
Hope it's good for another 30 yrs.
 
I have a silver century long shaft. I swapped an old bike for it, I dont have a boat that will take it, but i run it in a tank just to keep it going. I learned all i know about engines from it (which is admittedly a very limited knowledge) and it's great. I will eventually get around to aquiring a short shaft for the GP. They are a piece of history, but unlike any classic car, bike or boat you will ever buy, you can use it every day and it will take most of the abuse an average yachtsman will throw at it.
