...at the weekend (after two abortive attempts earlier in the year).

The entrance was a bit lumpy on Saturday (midday). I had all my notes, course to steer, etc, - then simply followed the fleet in (as well as normal traffic, there were 20 boats from our club going to Woodbridge) /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Isn't Woodbridge lovely? We've been by road, but arriving by water, in glorious sunshine, was so much better. As marinas go, we thought Tide Mill was interesting - the U-shape of it means that you don't have the feeling of being totally surrounded by boats, and the view over the river from our boat (we were on the south arm) was splendid. Decent pint & nosh at the Anchor on the Quayside, too.

Not enough wind for the journey back on Sunday, but at least the sun was shining.
We gave Charlie (the autohelm) his first real workout, whilst I went below and practiced with the radar. Got back to Shotley at 1740, to join a queue of 12 boats for the lock... .

Great weekend. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

(dunno what happened to my first attempt at this post)

Crikey did you go twice or is this a doppelganger post?

Nope - the computer threw a hissy fit as I was mid-post...

The Deben is a brilliant destination isn't it!

Glad you've finally got Stargazer working to your satisfaction....

Yep, most impressed with the Deben (tho' finding the channel through all the moorings is a bit of a challenge). As Arnie Schwarznegger said, "I'll be back".

Touch wood, all is well with the engine at present - although our emissions on start-up would have Al Gore reaching for the smelling salts....

At least the moorings are more or less stationary. What frightens me is trying to nose gently through what seems like 100 racing dingys in Troublesome Reach, with the cross tide pushing me relentlessly into the shoal water.

Keeping the boat in the Tidemill we do this quite often. It remains one of the more worrying maneuvers we make in the boat. The bar is pretty predicable; the Tidemill sill is completely predicable; but the dingys; they just worry me.

I keep meaning to get a cylinder...
