Finally bought a drone !! It didn't specifically say don't fly over expensive cars

Great Video Mike :encouragement:

Assume this has the Polariser in use - incredibly Blue water.

Yes, the Polariser was fitted but the water really is that colour.
Likewise the water in Santa Ponsa was that clear as well.
BTW, Santa Ponsa is one of those anchorages that we treat as a safe haven - there are better places in the islands when the weather is good.
I have loads of drone footage of Sant Carles boats together over the last week.
I will post a separate thread sometime when I've had time to edit the footage properly.

For those of you that can stomache Casey, here's an interesting piece on the Mavic Pro.

Can you believe that we live in the future that was predicted - interesting times...

Fingers crossed that mine will arrive before our hike in November...

Mavic vs Phantom 4 seems to be a significant trade-off between convenience and image quality... unless you're traveling with it, I'd stick with the P4 or both... even more so if you've completed the transition to 4K...

A lot of the early adopters of free kit have reported that but it looks as tho its related to the way the Mavic focuses using the screen press al la iOS cameras.
A few others are now getting very good results when focussing correctly.

Well I flew over the river Hamble but chickened out of flying whilst at sea. Actually really gutted. We were heading back Sunday night after a charter and the Solent was perfect, we had the place to ourselves. I tried to launch from the cockpit but it was too dangerous. It moved around a bit and I landed it back on the table but I wasn't confident.

The solution would have been a hand launch and recover from the front deck but having not done one before I decided to learn on land. Did a dozen hand launch and recover flights today without incident. Annoyed at a missed opportunity but better safe than sorry.

Henry :)

As a spoty youth i flew control line gas engined planes, i swipped my Dads best Bri Nylon shirt to cover the frame, and mums nail polish to coat it with. They accused esch other of being vindictive, while i kept very diplomatically quiet.

When that gave up i used baco foil, not expecting the much higher speeds. I had loaded it full up on short strings, my mate launched it - an run away!

I can see kids comming to investigate, and so was the park keeper, and i'm getting more and more giddy.

Had to crash it in a crowd gap while there was one, my dad had now arrived. I'm nowdengaged in collecting up the wreckage he remarked how similar some scraps of nylon were to his lost nbest shirt!

Bless him lol!

Just a matter of time, Henry
Remember - practise practise practise
The more you use it the more it works for you.
And that said from an absolute novice.

I slow to 5 knots and get someone to catch it on the foredeck, or if stationary then I bring it to where I'm sitting and grab it from the air. Actually landing on a surface seems pointless - much easier to grab the thing

I've just seen that DJI don't recommend grabbing the Mavic yet there are no landing struts :nonchalance:

That looks good, Henry
What are you using to edit?

Thanks.

Final Cut Pro 10. I originally bought it because I was struggling to process footage from a camcorder and FCP 10 managed to understand the codec instantly - funny that, throw a couple of hundred dollars at Apple and all of a sudden your machine understands the format whereas before it swore you were trying to feed it marmalade on toast.

Henry :)

A few years ago, I went through all the heavy stuff - Premier etc.
I then opted for the simplest software - Microsoft's free Movie Maker which is great fof very simple stuff.
But, recently, I wanted more options and still keep it simple.
So, I'm currently using Filmora (Wondershare) - I think it is available on all platforms.
I'm afraid I'm not into Apple in any form.
Filmora does have some very simple editing procedures - a big one for me is to crop a video clip so that I can "re-frame" the shot.
Very often in a video clip, you get a great action shot but it isn't framed well - cropping with Filmora's is dead simple.

Is Henry's Hamble flight legal in view of the CAA regulations? So far, I have refrained from doing such flights i.e. 50m from boats etc.

I was happy that no individual could be identified. That seems to be the main concern of the rules which cover camera equipped drones. From a safety perspective I was also happy that no individual was at risk. The timing of my flight was intentional. Speed and course were proportional to risk and you will note I didn't venture further out of the Hamble despite available range. I wanted to maintain visual contact with the quad at all times.

I aborted a flight later in the day over concerns regarding the ability to safely launch and recover the quad.

The irony is if I'd chosen to use my Canon camera and 70-300 L lens, a lens which cost about the same as the DJI quad I could have pretty much seen what individuals had for breakfast! Identifying them would have been simple.

I hope common sense prevails with drones. I'm a responsible adult and as a Yachtmaster have a very good understanding of what might endanger boats underway. As someone who sells CCTV for a living I also have a unique insight into concerns over privacy which people have.

Henry :)

10% off drones this weekend at Jessops. No connection, just a heads up. :encouragement:

Greetings Henry,

Dreaded thread drift... in your first vid, is it possible to only have Porkers in your surroundings? (except perhaps that lonely white Fazzazzz) I even spotted a 964...

Well done matey.
