Finally bought a drone !! It didn't specifically say don't fly over expensive cars

I understand EXACTLY what you mean.
I began waterskiing behind a 20' Mostes of a friend of mine, within an extremely enclosed bay in the northern part of Lake Como (known as Lake Piona, as if it were a separate lake, though it isn't), and I can still feel the emotion now, as I'm typing.
Several years later, some Germans with two boats thought that it was a good idea to waterski in that very same bay, with one boat pulling the skier and the second following.
You can easily guess what happened. And since that poor chap died, in that bay they restricted mobos to idle speed - how silly is that?
Needless to say, there were other accidents afterwards, more or less similar, in the open and wider part of the main lake... :ambivalence:

Yup I'd be worried if a goPro investor today. As well as dji bringing out a better drone, the faux pros at £15-20 each are surely going to make people who paid £300 for a Go Pro feel a little hard done by. The underwater shots in my recent youtubes are mostly shot with these and I can't tell difference from a real goPro, other than £280 less :encouragement:, so it feels to me like faux-Pro is where it's at.

Just put sj4000 into google or ebay search box

You mean that you've not got the Olympus Tracker yet: it's seriously good and waterproof out of the box. Very happy with mine and far less expensive than a 4K GP.

Nope! Looks nice but not obvious from website whether can be attached to Go-Pro fitting selfie sticks and things glued onto Seabob, etc, which is what you need to have these days. Also it's around £300 - why would you buy that when for same money you can have TEN faux pros (4k) that connect to gopro fitting (without any quality compromises relevant to recreational use)? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/1722...3D710-134428-41853-0%26rvr_id%3D1101009368628
 
I'll take the 10x faux pros Nigel! IMHO you want lots of angles to give you material to edit, and you don't want to have to care about a few casualties! (If you lose one, its the SD card you miss, not the £30 camera)

Getting back to first baby steps.
Yesterday, I managed to do my first launch (and landing) at sea - under way.
About 40 miles from land so absolutely no safe landing site.

Here is a quick edit from my flight.

In the first few seconds, you will see just how close it came to disaster - just missing the radar scanner on the way up!!
And in the last few seconds of the clip, we had put JW on the plane and she was starting to outrun the Phantom - I feel a Mavic will be coming soon.
This technology has re-invented the camera.
Fantastic fun

Loving that wake!.... one hell of a lump of water being kicked up....impressive ?

I've always stopped the boat for launching/recovery to avoid hitting the aerials/etc. But the risk of hitting something is of course greater on a smaller boat such as mine.

That Mavic indeed looks interesting, but I'm wondering if halving the weight makes it more vulnerable to wind gusts. Also, lighter blades provides less gyro effect, although the gimbal may well be on top of this. Also, looking at the specs it seems that you can not use it with an iPad which is a bit of a drawback in my books, as I like the big screen which is easy to see/use for more accurate framing and has enough real estate to include all the necessary controls.

Good points which I will be considering when I look closer at it.

BTW - recovering the drone at sea was a nightmare.
We actually recovered it onto the Flybridge but the VHF antenna were a big concern.
We will need a better procedure for next time.
 
Blimey mike! It has software-limited ascent and descent rates, so you were very lucky not to clunk the radar. You need to orientate it forwards and apply some forward pitch with the right hand stick - in other words push BOTH sticks forward, if taking off like that.

Easier to slow the boat down to say 6 knots, and also launch it off the aft deck or the tender's bow seat.

Landing gets easier - you'll be blasé about it after the 5th landing! I slow to 5 knots and get someone to catch it on the foredeck, or if stationary then I bring it to where I'm sitting and grab it from the air. Actually landing on a surface seems pointless - much easier to grab the thing

Yep - I know that ----- Now!
Still - it lived for yet another flight!!
Only one crash so far - the second flight in our back garden - hadn't read the book - its a "man" thing.
 
Brilliant.

I discovered Sport mode today. I'd flicked the switch before and didn't think much of it. I had multi modes disabled on the software! Once sorted the thing goes like a bloody rocket. You get all sorts of bits of quadcopter in shot as you're moving around, rotors, arms, lights and so on and you really need to turn into your stops rather than just letting it come to rest normally. A get you back the mother ship switch when you feel the boat is running away from you.
