Filler Cap 'O' Ring

My water filler cap 'O' ring has broken. Does anyone know of a supplier or the size so that I can source a replacement from eBay?

At the risk of stating the bleedin obvious, can you not just measure the broken o ring?

Have you spoken to Keyparts? I've bought numerous O-rings and seals from them.

Point taken , It's got to be about 60mm diameter I reckon.

Hmmmmmm. Good point!

Will it stretch over the cap?

in my experience the chain is screwed down, access to the bottom of the filler cap / pipework is needed to unscrew it. Not a onerous task if you have access. Even so I replaced my o-rings not on the removable cap / lid itself but on a recess in the body of the filler unit. The o-ring easily slid over the cap without stretching it

No, you'll need to undo the screw. (I expect you'll be posting a question about how to do this ).

No, I don't want to do that but repeating your mistake has some inevitability even knowing it's sprung loaded! Why is nothing on boats ever simple?

I think I might try cutting and splicing the 'O' ring using some Loctite® 406 instant adhesive (Loctite even make an O ring splicing kit - https://www.cromwell.co.uk/shop/adh...g-splicing-kit-imp-met-1-bottle/p/LOC7255815R).

Arnt you just making this more complicated. You’ll need to know how to use the knife and then how do you get the top off the glue ? I’d get someone in if I were you

I would but they'd probably charge me €250!

Yeah but the chain is still in the way, he's still going to have to face his nemesis (ie a screwdriver).

Buying the kit makes that an expensive O-ring. Take the cap to the nearest garage that has a kit, let them make one to fit.

Don't try gluing your existing ring - if it broke the material is probably past its best and it will fail again.
