Filled my water tank for the first time last night.....

Figured I would fill it right up to check for leaks (why I didn't do this before buying...)..... Found one... Should the water tank leak into the bilge through the plastic (very yellow) windowy insert in the top of the tank? Is this normal?

Since the water pump had been screwed to the ply floor (hence the awesome rumbling sound when it is running Must left and place rubber insert underneath.. Job number 1027) that was rapidly filling with freshers.. All taps were opened hurriedly and toilet flushed repeatedly (fingers crossed holding tank had the space...)

Do your toilets use fresh water from a tank?

According to the broker it does.. Based on the colour of the water I hope not but because the growler (fresh water pump) kicks off when I press the button, I would say yes.. :-(

Fresh water flush not uncommon and certainly alleviates any issues with the water outside bing a bit grubby Could have been some old water in the piping and I'd want to get really twitchy about ensuring the existance and effectiveness of non return valves in the system. My (older) Fjord's water tank initially overflowed straight into the bilge. Paranoia meant revising this to an overflow pipe to the deck under a cowling and using the flatulent sound of full to remond me to shut off the hose. Alternatively a small child watching the water gauge was an option and they could be prised away form the swings! IMO safe unattended water filling is a desireable thng unless the tank only takes a few minutes to fill.

"Growler" is also, in the UK, the noise device in a teddy bear's tummy. To an Aussie its somehting a lot more fun!

Maybe you have a second pump using water from the stuff you're floating in to flush. Seems like a waste to use fresh water from a (limited size) tank when there is plenty useful stuff all around you.

It is defiantely the same rubbish (growler) water pump for freshers and flushing.. I had a fairly comprehensive look after my "sinking the boat from the inside" incident but it is a very starnge setup and will require a manual for the toilet and a better understanding of what I am looking at re water tank, waste tank, immersion heater/calorifier...

I also have a rubbish trickle of water coming out of the taps (considering the sound the pump makes) and the flush is non existent.....

Sounds like you have a pressure sensitive pump but without an accumulator - a pressure tank that acts as a sort of balancing device. When you turn a tap on you probably get an initial rush of water but within a second or two it drops back to become more of a trickle? Tank unit is easy enough to fit and quite small. My new (to me) boat has the same problem so I also need to get a round tuit.

Sometimes the pressure on the other side of the diaphragm gets lost during a prolonged lack of use and the unit becomes ineffective.

Some have a Schrader type valve, so you can pump them up with a bicycle pump - only needs a couple of puffs.

Cool.. Thanks for the advice again all.. I will defo check that stuff before purchasing a new one and I might just mount the sucker on a rubber mat.... Here's another classic.. Made it to pump out today and there was nothing to pump out!!! Checked bypass wasn't on and it wasn't... Filled bog/dunny/crapper/loo/throne with water, stuck it on bypass and flushed... Nothing.. Buggered if I know where it is going but you can be sure I will be searching next week!!! It ain't sloshing about in the bilges either and the water tank is clear except for scale!!! I have transported a he'll of a lot of processed beer to the head so the boat would reek if it was leaking!!! Another damned challenge to help me understand my boat better......

Checked and nada leaving the boat.. I will be surrounding the boat with peeps Tuesday night then flushing freshers.. Also bought £30 wet&dry vac to potentially help suck out any blockages...

Ok.. offending lillet found stuck right in the divert valve... NICE.. Previous owner!!!

Silicone sealant on list to seal the rim round the holding tank fittings as they are loose and appear to have been sealed before.. I cannot tighten the fittings any further... Tank is quite full so Friday will be pump out day.. yay...

Accumulator, inline fresh water inlet strainer and new water filter bought.... I will;
a. move the water filter and pump to a more practical location and add the inlet strainer and accumulator..... Will mount these on foam rubber mat.

b.. Lift the ply and sort a hatch so I can access the midship bilge..

Just gotta find the right hose, rubber mat and stainless jubilee clips..

Well.. that is Thursday night sorted...
