Own a suzuki 115 with an aluminium Prop. Planning to replace prop with a stainless steel one? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Should size( Pitch etc etc ) be the same as the aluminium one?
Also on WOT rpms are on the 5000 - 6000 range. more near to the 6000 mark. As per Manual states it is ok. Cruising speed for me on choppy water is between 20 - 25 knots. Is it ok? On calmer seas on WOT i reach 35 knots after trimming bit up. Are the knots i am achieving normal for the type of horsepower i own. Or should i except more or less? Just as a curiosity. What you expert guys think? Thanks for your feedback.

You'll probably want to keep the same size and pitch unless you're very close to max allowed rpm at WoT. Stainless is far stronger and so can be made thinner and therefore your prop can spin with less drag. They are 3 times the price of an aluminium one so really depends on how much use it sees and what sort of speeds you travel at. In theory for the same speed the rpm should be lower and therefore less fuel being used. It's worth doing as you should probably carry a spare prop anyway and the aluminium one would do for that.

Knots vs Hp all depends on the type of hull, weight, weather etc but 35 knots seems pretty good for your Karnic. A DF140 might see 40+ for the same application based on my experience. I had a 2050 with a Honda 140, a 2250 with a DF200 and a 2452 with a DF250.

I have a 115 Suzuki and when it was being serviced at the start of the year, I asked the mechanic about having a stainless prop fitted.
Because they look sooooo good :-)
Anyway, the mechanic advised against it. His reason being that the gearbox would more likely suffer damage if I acidently struck the bottom (being in Poole it's possible thou not happened yet)
ive no idea if this is correct but would seem to make sence, I would rather sacrifice an alu prop than have gearbox damage.
Pity thou
