Hello there,

The yacht I bought came with a yellow collapsible dinghy. The only indentification I dould find on it was "Ferryman" on the outside of he hull. I was told it was a Kiwi job, but couldn't find anything more on the web.
I'd like to find out whether there are any accessories ( sail, mast, rudder...) available from the supplier or distributor.

Cheers, Alexis

Hi Alexis
Have just found your post in 2017 !!!

Yes...the Ferryman Folding Dinghy is from Dunedin NZ and is a clever Kiwi invention. I have had one for nearly 15 years.

Mine is Dark Green, has a Maker's Stamp - THE FERRYMAN BOAT CO, DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND 300014 [not sure if it refers to how many were built or not?]

I have tried to add some photos however can't seem to do it.

My email is GDQ1944@gmai.com if you want me to send you some photos.

Good Luck!

GERRY QUAID

The Ferryman was designed by Hugh Jones in Dunedin. They were to be manufactured in Switzerland, but I don't know whether they were in the end. I can ask him about it if anyone would like. We had a running joke because I have a little Seahopper which I used to keep on top of a narrowboat.

Hello,
I just bought a Ferryman dingi, basically to get my young ones on the water. I found it on a platform, 25 years old, had been stored for many years by a lovely couple, very good condition first sight. It came quite complete, I guess: my middle son enjoyed rowing, my little daughter finally took courage to go sailing with pa. So happy I was, no capsizing, fortunately, contrary to my folding kayak sailing. So, finally we could have had so much fun with this great construction - BUT: the glue lost it´s hold. After 2h of sailing, many of the glued patches loosened and the whole dingo lost form, became unsafe in fact. Really a pity, for my children won´t enter my kayaks in order to learn sailing.
Anyone out there with an idea which kind of glue should be used? Or any possibility to ask Hugh Jones in Dunedin still? In case, please send my congratulations for the boat, I will definetely try to restore it. Best wishes,
janwillem

Well, my best guess is PVC, judging by comparing two foldable kayaks, one from GDR with PVC and one with Hypalon.

Thanx for the deciphering guide, I will have a try with sanding paper and acetone, too at an inconspicous spot.

Up to now I am more into wood and woods, but the dingi is really great fun and is easy to transport to the next lake on a hot summer day.
