Re-opened last night.

They held a bit of a bash that was extremely well attended (mobbed). So much so they ran out of Southwold on the opening night. The place rally was heaving to overflowing so I won't complain about running out of hooch. It was also so full of people it was difficult to see the new decoration.

Went there for supper tonight. Very favourably impressed by both the food and the new decoration. It is very easy to take the soul out of an old building when doing a renovation. Tony has done a good job.

Shame all the tat has gone off the walls though eh Chris? :p

Taking the mickey aside, my first impressions were favourable too. I'm not entirely convinced by the new decor but it'll grow on me

The reupholstered settles and varnished tables are a big improvement I must say

Is that Tony, formerly from the Marina club?

If so, I'd it's in good hands.

Must get down soon, when work quietens down.

Indeed it is Tony & Cher, though Tony will be spending most of his time at the club still, I will miss his ray wings now weve moved to Limehouse, probably even worth a drive up just for that though.

we popped in last Saturday evening after trying to get into the marina bar (private function going on) the place was busy but the service and food was very good.
will be visiting again.

it's a great shame he's banned dogs in the pub. I understand that the landlord does not want dogs in the restaurant but in the old pub dogs were welcome in the public bar, now they're not. Apparently it's to do with keeping a five-star food hygiene rating, though I know loads of places that serve food that allow dogs in and have five stars.

in my opinion a pub is not a proper pub if it doesn't have a proper public bar where old guys with their dogs can have a quiet pint. I know that country pubs can only survive these days by diversifying into food, but plenty of them manage to do this whilst still retaining something of the character of a traditional country pub.

In which case I shall be happy to visit and eat. For hygiene reasons dogs (or other pets) should most definitely not be allowed in pubs which serve food until the meals are finished. After that I have no problem with dogs in the bar.

That is absurd. There are pubs all over the country which serve food and allow dogs at the same time. And even more households. You might as well insist that it's only safe to eat if everyone takes their shoes off before they enter.

I'm not keen on Dogs in Eating areas, neither am I particularly keen on Kids running round while I am eating. In the "Old Days" they were confined to "Family Rooms" without direct access to a bar. Have the rules changed or just relaxed?

In some pubs kids were not allowed in at all! The Ship at Levington was one such. What's more there was a notice outside which read
NO CHILDREN
NO DOGS
NO EUROPEANS
!!!!!!

I don't think "No Europeans" is allowed any more :D

Children and dogs belong in the pub garden with a packet or crisps and a bottle of coke. Even if it's lissing it down. Did me no harm :ambivalence:

I totally understand about dogs in the ferryboat as you can eat everywhere and the waitresses could trip over if a pet was in the way due to a tight space.
I don't mind kids being in the bar provided that they are not screaming the place down and not running around everywhere again this is down to responsible parents.
But if I had a preference children should be either in the restaurant area or outside.

You might as well insist that it's only safe to eat if everyone takes their shoes off before they enter.[/QUOTE/. I often see pubs where dogs are in a beer garden when food is served. Occasionally I have been in one when food is served, but more often they are not allowed in the ones I visit. Later in the evening there may be dogs allowed. My sister in law has dogs, but when we eat a meal they are required to reside in their"quarters". She is a dog trainer and understands that, just like children should do, grown ups sometimes want their own space.

I'm pleased to report that dogs are again allowed in the Ship bar, although there is a seperate area for those who wish to eat in a dog-free zone. Europeans are very welcome, or so we found, being European. Don't know about young kids but we've seen early teens made welcome.

If the ferryboat have banned dogs, that puts a stop to any plans of a berthing contract return for us to Fambridge I'm afraid. Taking the dog for a walk up to the pub was the only thing to do there of an evening.
