Told it's changed hands, went in at weekend, first to ask if it was possible to book a table, owner said "not a chance, we're full" & walked off!
About as much charm as a plastic plant pot :D
Managed to eat in the Red Lion at top of village, friendly people but a bit like taking part in a Fawlty Towers episode ;)

Strange you should say that, we went in there last week for our annual visit. In past years even when as they were full they always found us a table when people had finished eating and we got fed, this time they were really offhand and told us no chance.
The new fish bar opposite was also full and we didnt walk up to the Red Lion as it was raining so we dined handsomely on board from our emergency Frey Bentos supply.

Same hosts two weeks ago, as have been for the last five years at least. Always welcoming and friendly. Whether incredibly busy or not. have never been able to book a table its first come first served am afraid. BTW Start bay Inn is much more efficient now at seating people, much faster turnaround, though again be prepared for the answer if you try to book a table but any regulars will know this..... Dinner at Blackpool sands thurs fri sat or try mitchs new fish and chip restaurant on the emabnkment at dartmouth (9.95 for a piece of Cod eaten in) takeaway is about £6.50. Do not eat at any of the other dartmouth chippies as they are all ghastly, especially since the big one burnt down.

Eh
I was clearly told, no booking, no table!
Landlord of Red Lion confirmed it had changed hands

Spent 4 lovely (if womewhat expensive) hours @ the FBI on Thursday afternoon, got in just before the rush and found the staff really nice, towards the end of our stay the staff were putting reserved cards on many of the tables so assume you can book but unlikely to get a table the same day?

Not quite true, IMO the Frying Pan, 11 Broadstone has perfectly good fish & chips. It's very small, you usually have to queue, but worth the wait.:)

When Eddy ran it full time it was great. Now they dont cook the chips properly if you can call them cooked and the fish is sub-standard. The mitch tonks place the chips are frozen and rubbish as well.

Why cant someone in Dartmouth do decent chips. Nearest decent chippie is Totnes.
