I have a ferro cement boat that works very well for me. It has had a ding out of the topside around 5 cm by 5 cm and 3 cm deep follwing a bump with jetty. I have read all sorts of ideas about how to fix but do remember someone writing about a product called sealocrete who makes industrial repairs for cement. I have spoken to the technical department who had not heard of ferrro boats but thought that the epoxy patch repair product would probably do the job at a fraction of the cost of a WEST based system. So has anybody used sealocrete or any other suggestions for repairing this small/medium sized knock. thanks

Not sure if this is much help but I do know that Sealocrete is a very well respected company in the building industry and are a sizable company..

I think that advice from their technical dept would be worthwhile.

Would you consider going with their suggestion on the basis that you could always revert to the more expensive solution if the first one is not satisfactory?

WEST is not going to cost that much .. Use some MICRO BALOONS ( very fine glass beads . sandable ) in it to stiffen it up .. Most Epoxy Resins will seep into concrete .. Probably best clean hole .. Paint with WEST first .. Let it go tacky .. and then fill the hole .. Tape a piece of plastic over the top to stop it moving down the hull .. Try WEST Technical they are very helpfull .. They might have another idea .. Suppose you could paint it with Unibond and then fill it with cement mixture .. The Unibond will certainly help it stick .. Have Fun .. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I have a couple of pots of Sealocrete and would advise that it is very different from West plus microballoons. It comes in 50/50 packs so is convenient for mixing. It is extremely viscous, I guess due to filling with a variety of bulky, long-fibre fillers. When mixed, which due to the viscosity is quite hard work, it will not slump but will remain exactly where you put it. It came from a ferro boat that my son worked on, he was very impressed with it. They carried loads of it on board for emergency repairs.

I have used it to make solid bolting pads in my double-skinned boat, mainly for the attachment of heavy fittings such as windlass. Once hard it is possible to file, sand, drill, etc.

Which of the sealocrete products do you have.

I am looking for a similar product to repair my ferro yacht but cannot identify the product you recommend from the sealocrete web site

Thanks
