Fenders : how to get them white again ?

To make future cleaning easier a protective coating is wise.

Washing them more than once every two years works wonders as well.

Alternatively, sod the %$£*ing fenders and go out for a sail. Life is too short.

As the plastic ages it seems to start excreting a sticky goo. Whilst it can be removed with a solvent it soon comes back. And stickiness attracts grit which scratches your topsides. It's worse at the top presumably due to sunlight - so end for ending is worth doing.

I'm afraid I just accept that I'll need 6 new fenders every five years. Not too expensive. But I do find it hard to throw the old ones away. They're piled up in the garage!

I don't use socks since they trap dirt which then rubs into the side of the boat. Bad news. Just keep the fenders clean without using any abrasives. Made simple by Polymarine products as above.

Local marine 'detailers' here in the USA put the fenders in a bin bag with some diluted chlorox (bleach), shake it up to get some foaming, seal off the bag and leave in the hot sun for a few hours, not sure if damp rain works a well though.

For what it is worth i have given old fenders to the local marina lift-out crew who has been pleased to lash them in the sluice thing, better than binning them?

Oven cleaner. Wear gloves. Doddle, used it a lot, tip from a pro boat cleaner lady.
