Fenders, do you leave them on under way!

Perhaps they are trophies from some wretched raggie. The nautical equivalent of the dead crows, foxes, moles, squirrels, stoat, weasels etc. that gamekeepers hang on fences.

My sternmost fenders come up as soon as underway, at least when I remember. They pull the others almost horizontal anyway so all is good.

If I forget, the splashing is a quick reminder that they've not been done.

When handling my boat single handed there have been times when I have left out the fenders hanging either side of the bow because I did not feel safe leaving the helm to bring them in. I do prefer to get them in whenever possible.

Oh dear! I pop mine onto the deck but don't actually untie them. Might do if we actually ever go for longer than an hour but we never seem to get the time or weather to do that.:o

Ditto. I have them flipped over the rails so they hang above deck but not stowed away. This reduces the stress on the Admiral who is not agile having to crouch down on deck while underway to try and tie them back on. Now she can just flip them over. I am a novice. Bet the gainsayers hoot at cars with L plates on too

I used to single-hand a lot and sometimes just flipped the fenders over the rails. But I had occasion to regret this once in quite unpleasant conditions when the blimmin things were swinging about and causing mayhem until I went out on deck (clipped on) and sorted them out as I should have done in the calm of the marina. In the end it only takes a couple of minutes to stow them properly.

Agreed. But as they cause no harm on my boat or to any other boat, dont effect performance or for that matter pose any danger whatsoever when tucked over a rail (no free length to swing)and is one less worry for the wife when coming in to dock who really cares what other's think of me. Let them tend to their own boat and have their mutter. For me at least, anything to help the admiral along because when she stops enjoying it I may as well pack up and sell up. If I can find a suitable snap on method to the rails (thinking along the lines of a rubber or plastic caribino type affair) I will gladly reconsider but having my wife tie them on while on all fours at her age while negotiating Conwy channel is a party stopper.
