Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on fendering my 13ft DQD.

I use it on the Thames for pleasure, however going through locks etc, the low freeboard is causing issues, as the desk can end up under the various lock mooring points.

What is the best way to prevent this? I already have scratches :(

Cheers,
Andy

Apologies, it's probably easier to show in an image.

It's the area circled in red that's vulnerable: https://i.imgur.com/oVWHvc6.jpg

Basically above the rubbing strip, and the fore deck, if the mooring is above the height of the rubbing strip (as it often is).

Cheers,
Andy

Presumably by "mooring" you mean quaysides, pontoons, wooden staging, and suchlike?

If the quayside is higher than the rail, have you considered hanging the fenders from the shore instead of the boat? Obviously you need to remember to take them with you when you move :)

Otherwise, maybe ball-type fenders attached to the rails with very short lanyards might stick out far enough to hold the boat well away from the wall?

These are called low freeboard fenders. I use them on the back of my swim platform. The advantage is that they stay in place, sausage type fenders eventually slip under or over a low freeboard

As you mention lock are you referring to pilings and water level changes. If so you may find a fender board is what you require

Hi Bouba - These look like what I need. Thanks!

I know what you mean and familiar with your very boat. Have a look at jet ski fenders on the market.
Jobe also make a flat padded type long rectangular fender that might work too
