can anyone recommend a decent supplier of fender socks (preferably an online source) as wouldn't mind putting them on the old xmas list.

Did have my heart set on some nice official Sealine ones until I saw the price - £15 each !

I've never really seen the point of these, the fender is there to stop the boat getting damaged and rubbed againest dirty lock sides, the fender sock is to stop the fender getting damaged and dirty rubbing againest dirty lock sides, what protects the fender sock /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Waste of money, with the crud on the lock walls they will be "MULLERED" in no time. Take this from one who tried them and regretted it.....

The socks collect all the muck off the lock wall and hold it tight, then when it revolves it deposits it on the hull, scratching it and making it look dirty, you then end up with pristene looking fender socks.
Better to have good fenders that can easily be wiped down I reckon.

Wouldn't waste my money on them. The fabric of the sock tends to pick up, and retain, small items of grit etc which then becomes a very effective abrasive for the gel-coat. I've seen the damage thay can inflict. If you are determined to have some, they probably need taking off and washing after every outing.

I notice Black fenders are very fashionable ..also black mooring ropes ....anyone know if white fenders can be painted?

..

I got mine from Mailspeed, along with some very cheap fenders. I then put the fender socks on old fenders & used these on the pontoon, and only used the new fenders for cruising & kept them clean. Reason was the old fenders had black marks which were rubbing off onto the hull whilst in the boatyard.
