Fender Ropes

We did all ours in navy blue 3 strand and spliced the fenders on.

On Kindred Spirit I spliced the eyes but then cow-hitched them to the fenders, so that the lanyards would be removable if needed for any reason.

(Ariam's are currently a mix of random bits of rope tied on by my dad )

Mine are a mix of spliced and knotted. Spliced looks way nicer but I never think about splicing the knotted ones until they are in use and then it's too late.
Just a slight drift... with all my fenders I always attach a rope top and bottom so that they can be slung vertically or horizontally as circumstances dictate. Do others do the same, I've never really noticed when out and about?

So what happens to the bottom lanyard when they're hung vertically? Either it'll trail in the water or you have to attach it to something - all extra faff when 90% of the time the fenders are used upright. If I want to hang one horizontally I either use a spare bit of line or the other end of the lanyard, depending how much length I need.

Although, if hanging two fenders horizontally one above the other, you can put them with their lanyards at opposite ends and pass each one through the eye of the other fender. The one on the upper fender will need to go down and up again, through the fender eyes both times.

So what happens to the bottom lanyard when they're hung vertically?

It dangles in the water. Should say I'm on a mooring so fenders are only used occasionally.
