Fender infation i.e. getting air into them!

Yes that is the adapter; I have one now, it fits onto the fender 'valve' well. But there is another problem which no doubt means buying something else made by Plastimo. The adapter does not fit onto any type of bike pump or my car foot pump or my dingy pump, it is therefore at present no use whatsoever.

This one?

Could you glue the brass core of a tyre valve into it?

That is the one yes. The fundamental problem is that the pointy end and 'key' which fit into the fender 'valve' (that isn't really a valve), does not form a proper airtight seal - fundamental design flaw. But gluing a valve into the adaptor could be an idea; retrospectively I think coating the adaptor point in a rubber type glue on the outside might also help as (once dried) it might help make a better seal.

The other problem is getting an inflation device to fit the wide end. Yesterday afternoon I managed to jubilee clip my dingy pump tube onto the wide end; and did get a certain amount of air into the fenders, not really enough, but better than before, and maybe in the summer when the air expands they might be reasonable.

One learns from experience and I've learned:

- that I won't buy Plastimo fenders again
- to be doubly cautious when buying any Plastimo product
- that it would make sense to ensure fenders are fully inflated when purchased 'in store' (probably not possible if bought online)
- to ascertain what inflation devices are required prior to purchase

- that it would make sense to ensure fenders are fully inflated when purchased 'in store' (probably not possible if bought online)

Disagree. (Although Force4 were quite surprised when I said I'd prefer to inflate them myself.) Your problem seems to be that you (either) do not have a compressor yourself (or) you are unwilling to make use of a garage airline?

Why should I have to either buy a compressor or use a garage airline (my nearest garage is 25 miles away - hardly convenient) to inflate fenders? I also don't see how you can attach either a compressor or a garage airline to the Plastimo adapter. And if you can't attach either of these to the adaptor you can't use the adaptor, and if you can't use the adaptor you will loose most of the air you get in by the time you have closed the 'valve' using a screwdriver.

My point about buying fully inflated (while separate from the inflation issue) would ensure that the fender itself and it's 'valve' are intact and functional; and of course are ready for immediate use.

Have you tried using a forecourt airline to inflate a fender recently? I have. I went to three different ones, and still didn't get the thing to inflate. First of all, you have to find one that is not out of order, then you have to have the right coins to put in the machine (none of this "Free Air" nonsense any more), then you have to dial in the pressure you want to inflate it to (I hadn't a clue), then when you read the small print you find that either it will not work on flat tyres or similar, or you have to go through a special procedure, by which time your 20 pence or whatever have run out again.

That was what I meant by putting a valve core in it, to attach your pump.

Ah, I'm with you now. It might be worth a try, and if I also coat the fender end of the adapter with a rubber solution it might make a reasonable tool. A wee project to work on me thinks (given that the weather here looks set to continue as ***** over the next week or so it may get done sooner than later.

I have followed this sad thread for some time now, and I'm sorry, but I have to say that there are some pathetically inadequate people around. I would refer you back to post #2, which gives a practical solution to the perceived problem. I like that solution, which is simple, clear, and cheap. Myself, I use a piece of tube, cut from an old inner tube, but for some reason, people don't seem to be able to solve these kind of problems for themselves. Instead, their only solution is to say, "Where can I buy.........?"

Rant over.;)

Because sunshine Plastimo fenders don't have a proper valve so as soon as you take the filling station pipe away the air spews out whilst you grab screwdriver and close valve three quarter turn, if the filling station option worked I'd use it. So Mr Inadequate go take a hike...

So you are obviously in favour of p*** poor design. Presumably on the basis that no matter what the defect or what the item cost, you are so smart that you can fix it. My viewpoint is that when you pay £100 plus for a piece of plastic, it should not need fixing!

now then boys.. calm down!

It was me that posted #2 with the ball point pen case.
It worked for me on the fenders I bought from Lidl, just hooked it up to an airline and whoosh.
Lidl 1 , plastimo 0

God knows why Plastimo fenders have no valve, or are supplied with no viable adapter, that does seem surprising and poor.
If they expect to supply inflated, that's all very well , but it's a bit silly for mail order, or for a topup.

Maybe my pen needs an unscrewing mod for plastimo?
