I'm thinking about getting some fender holders as I'm on a bit of a mission to try and save some locker space at the moment. When under way I usually stow the fenders in the cockpit lockers, but I have to leave quite a bit of space to allow for six fenders to be stowed. Something like these..

I have never seen fender holders on a sailing boat before though. I have seen them on motorboats, usually on the pullpit. Is there any reason why they aren't common on sailing boats, is just considered unsightly?

seen a number of boats where they are stowed in the sugar scoop dangling from the pushpit. Looks ugly to me. I have plenty of spce on my little 29 ft boat to stow all my fenders. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The previous owner of my boat had fitted them on the port and starboard quarters. They looked ugly but were useful. I threw them out when we got to the Med because they were impossible when moored bows or stern-to.

We have 2 on the side of each pushpit, they are great for just chucking the fenders in ,but as Lemain says you need to be careful when mooring stern -to as they are very sticky-out and hence tend to hook on to everything in reach. However they make a brilliant holder for a small barbecue base which I made to fit neatly inside, much cheaper than the bought ones.

We have two Plastimo 3 fender jobs one on each inside of the side of the pushpit - makes it a bit awkward to get around the aft deck. We have absolutely zip other storage apart from inside the boat (aft cabin or pilot berth)
