Has anyone got any different ideas for fender baskets please. Looking for something different to usual wire jobbies. Fender size about 12” dia and 24” long, dims from memory not actual really just to give an idea of size.
I want 6, cheap, rapidly draining, reasonably robust, I want to fix them to stanchions.

Yep, hoping for inspiration have looked at waste paper baskets, linen and refuse bins but can’t find anything, hoping forum collective had ideas

I got the boss to knock me up some from canvas, made a tube, draw string at base, webbing to fix to guard rail. Been on the boat for two seasons still as good as new, and the plus side doesn't fill up lockers and easy to deploy. I would add pics but cannot work out how.

Same here, don't forget the Velcro on the webbing.

We use a snap hook on a loop of line at each end of the fender. Clip to the top guardrail so that the fender is parallel to the rail. When using the genoa, fenders go outside the rail, cruising chute flip inside to avoid fouling the sheets. Cheap as chips and keeps them out of the way. Use plastic clips to avoid any chance of damaging the gel coat.

Duncan, I had sort of thought of trying that so thanks for the idea, will give it a go. Also thanks for a sensible answer it’s tiring when the children disrupt and then go on because they think you didn’t see their silly attempt at humour and then think you missed their attempt not realising I couldn’t be arsed.
Thanks again
K

Similar to the way I do it. I tie the fender line to the fender with a bowline and leave a short tail from the knot to tie the snap hook to. The fender on the full length line is set up for pontoon fendering, snap the hook onto the lower handrail wire and you're setup for coming alongside another boat or higher dock, move the hook to the top wire and the fender can be placed inside or outside the wire for stowage as suits your boat.
Not very seaman like, but when single handed I like to minimise my time outside the cockpit.

We have canvas fender pockets made for us by Slik Cut Plymouth. They have brass eyelets for lacing onto the guardwires and stanchions, and are open at the bottom. One port and one starboard about 2m aft of the bow.

Sized for 300mm diameter fenders.
If you fall against them, no injuries!

Michael.
