Morning all,

I'm thinking of moving Vim from Heybridge Basin to an all-tide mooring at the Ferry, halfway up Horse Sand. Pointers please from anyone who's spent time there please.

I'm familiar with the entrance, it's just the general positives/negatives of keeping a boat there that I'm after. Can I launch a dinghy there at LW?

TIA

Hi Major,
We were there for a bout 4 years hopefully heading back soon.
Launching no problem at any tide as long as you stick to the slipway/ gravel areas, very soft mud especial to the left.
Also a small tender park within dragging distance. Only negative we had two tenders go missing, but I guess that can happen anywhere.
You also get a card for the barrier so parking was also good.
No shops close by but a good fish shop and a couple of cafes.
One of our favourite moorings.
Rich.

I have a fairways mooring there. No issue launching tenders and dingy park is good but rather full. Main issue is the huge amount of Seagull crap that you get on your boat other than that an excellent location

I only know it as a visitor. The only swinging mooring I have been resident on was at Maylandsea. The problem there was that the slack water allowed fouling to build up quickly. It occurs to me that Bawdsey with its strong streams would keep bottoms much cleaner for longer.

Hi Major Clanger,

Have been there since 1987 on a full tide mooring past the Horse sand which takes over 5 minutes with the dinghy outboard flat out. Don't ask what happened in October of that year and yes it is exposed in strong winds, but so handy. Andrew Moore will lift and service your mooring yearly.

It's fine to launch the dinghy at LW, the dinghy park is cramped but OK. Hauling a hard dinghy up the loose shingle from low water is a puff unless it has some wheels. When the Bawdsey Ferry is running you can be delivered from the Jetty to your boat for £3 per person single (last year's rates) in the summer.

I can leave my house and be over the bar and out to sea in one hour, or sailing up the Deben. What's not to like.

In this little video right at the start is the Dingy park and the slip is in several of my other videos. Hope this helps

That's great, thanks!

I had a wander about the yard yesterday at LW and looked at the dinghy park and where my mooring would be. It's all good and I'll be moving her when I'm back from my next delivery. The beer at the FBI is still good too.
