For anyone so inclined there's a list of abandoned / repossessed or otherwise unloved boats for sale by tender on the IOW by the local council.

You can get the full list of those that may still be available from here: < Newport Harbour <newport.harbour@iow.gov.uk >

There were several small 5 - 7 metre sail boats and small power boats, all probably available for next to nothing - most of them actually still floatingIOW boats.jpg

Can't vouch for what's still available

Is this one of them

Vic, for goodness sake, did you not read the post properly man? He said "most of them actually still floating", not "often stuck hard aground".

:)

I think floaty macdisaster face would certainly not get any bids - scrap value only...

Out of action yet again this week - broken chain

They should have built one of these, a 'real' floating bridge :

They repaired it yesterday evening and it is running again today.
Actually it was one of the wire cables that the lifting chains are attached to that broke. They replaced the broken one then went on to replace the other three. Presumably with heavier ones. They'd previously replaced the original chains after one broke a while back. Seems that the builders are incapable of determining the loads involved, other than by trial and (repeated) error.

But maybe they could have got a bit more service out of this one and saved several £million

Hi, the original tender date was Oct 19th but some / many were left having received no offers.
Contact the Senior Harbour Master on 01983 821000 ext 5978 for further details.
Tender form, instructions, and catalogue were originally available by request from: newport.harbour@iow.gov.uk but as mentioned, I have no idea which ones sold and which are left
Good luck, great shame not to see some of them at least restored to order and sailing again if it's cost effective - if you bought one and needed somewhere to put it in a hurry PM me - I have a 12M folly reach pontoon empty as I came out of the water for the winter today !

Thanks Lightwave, that's a fabulous offer.

There was nobody there when I called, but I'll try again tomorrow.

It's only a casual enquiry, but it wouldn't be so far for me to come, or to sail her home, assuming she's seaworthy.

Of course, if she is seaworthy, she's unlikely to be still available, but thanks for drawing my attention. :encouragement:
