So today I finally took the steps to put my Leisure 27 up for sale, and I am surprised how sad it has made me feel - it took me quite by surprise and I'm not normally known for being a sentimental person.

As I wrote the details down for the advert I recalled the scuffed and cut knuckles rewiring, the frustrations of trying to line up the holes for the radar mounts, and as I went thru the photos all the various trips with friends and family came back, especially the first time my (then) 1 yr old slept on the boat overnight.

Red Dragon has seen me thru some tough times - she's been a man cave to hide away in, a bringer of joy as dolphins play around the bow, and a safe haven with storms beating down on us.

A sad day indeed, but onwards and upwards to a more modern looking AWB ;)

I never thought I would get so attached to her - is this juts a first boat selling feeling or does it happen every time? It almost feels like a member of the family is leaving us.

There is an often quoted saying that the 2 best days in a boats ownership are the day you buy her and the day you sell her. I'd agree with the first but not the second, I've always been a bit sad to see a boat go, even if the next one is lined up...

PS what are you after?

Well, gird your loins, because some git is going to get chippy with your boat and details, and then make such a ridiculous offer, you will want to shove him overboard.

Keep Calm and Sell the Boat.

I only ever sold one boat (besides dinghies), but luckily that was to a lovely couple who remained friends for years. Interestingly I also remained friends with the guy I bought it off. Good luck with finding a suitable new family to look after her & with finding her replacement.

How very true, and good advice.

i am sure Red Dragon will have excellent paperwork though ;)

Comrade Red,

is she fin or twin keel ?

It's obvious from the photo that you have spent a lot of time and money on her.

I sold one boat - my Anderson - once after a disastrous relationship, instantly regretted it bitterly and left messages with the yard as she was left ashore.

In the meantime I had a Carter 30, nice enough boat but didn't have the handling and fun; when I sold that boat it felt like stepping out from under a falling rock and I was quite happy about it !

I then got a call ' do you still want your old boat back ? ' after I'd virtually given up, I had her back in 2 days.

Just console yourself that you have come to the decision to sell for good reasons unlike me and looking for the new boat will be heaps of fun in itself, Good Luck.

Well, with any luck, our colvic 26 will change hands tomorrow and I'll be soory to see her go. Our MF805 is very nice and means I don't go boating alone now but even so.......

I nearly cried when our boat went up for sale and will spend the inter-yacht time in grief. But it is worse going down to the boat feeling guilty that I am being disloyal; selling her and that no one cares enough to buy her. Is it ok to post a link on this forum?

After 14 years with our jaguar 27 which looked after us really well and had HUGE amounts lavished on her...she was immaculate as we sold her and we were both very upset to walk away from her for the last time. Very.

She was sold in one day, and subsequently, her new owners have said how thrilled they are with her. It helped.
A bit.
The next boat helped a bit more.......
