I've sailed my Fulmar to Madeira from the Algarve several times.It's usually a bit windy.Looking at the GPS I regularly get 7/8 knots with the occasional 10/11 knots surf.Coming back it's a 500nm windward slog so speeds drop but 6/6.5 knots is frequent.

I realize this is an old thread but I have just come back to the inevitable "I want a bigger boat" and came across an ad for a Feeling 920. I currently sail a Superseal 26 and I therefore have an irreconcilable attraction to lifting keels and I am intrigued by the comment "I wouldn't entertain a centre-board version". Can you (or anyone) elaborate?

Condition as always is king...or queen, but something like the 920 lift keel would indeed be a bigger Superseal 26......!!.
Feelings are generally lightly finished and someplaces not finished perhaps that well, subjectively, because there's plenty around from the 80s looking very smart, and several with offshore racing credits
I now sail a 286 on the east coast. They are general quick cruisers with a nice light finish and good space below.
I am not aware of a specific weakness that the 920 LK has over other LK designs, and the keel looks a good shape. However LK Feelings in common with others using a single non lifting rudder, has meant a fairly shallow rudder which may mean less grip : this was certainly the case with the otherwise excellent Feeling 29/Kelt 850. Later lift keel Feelings went to twin rudders. I think they are/ were the Joubert/Roseo boats built under Alliaura's ownership of Feeling.

Realistically do you want to dry out on a beach somewhere? You know what the wind and weather are doing when you put the boat on a beach but you may not know what it will be like when you refloat. I don't fancy bumping up and down on the bottom before being able to get clear.
I don't generally boat in an area where 1m will make a lot of difference. Anyway I would not feel too confident about sailing at full speed where the water is less than 1m70 (5'6").
