I am about to fit a new windlass and was wandering what the best way is to protect the hole for feeding the chain into the locker from the ingress of water. At present I have a tube to one side through which the chain has to be hand fed but the instructions for the new windlass shows the chain feeding over the gypsy and straight down into the locker.

Normally, there is some kind of a protective shroud over the hole but you should'nt be bothered about water getting into the anchor locker as there should be a drain hole at the bottom since the anchor itself will be wet after its lifted

My boat is late '70's and has a separate bow locker with a bottom drain outside through the hull.
I had a closer look this week and found it has an OVERFLOW hole which goes down into the bilges but would need one hell of a lot of water to be needed either that or a blocked drain hole (could be caused by rope over it).
