Feedback/knowledge req on a poss purchase pls?

Yup, Admiral was a fairly short lived boat building concern that used Colvic moulded hulls and fitted them out themselves. I believe that most of their business was with charter companies. AFAIK, this hull is a John Bennett design which has been used by other builders as well and has a good reputation as a solid sea boat. Obviously, the biggest concern is the quality of the mechanical/electrical installation so a detailed survey is a must. One possible drawback is the engines. 355hp doesn't sound like much for what is a chunky 44 footer so I wouldn't expect more than 25kts downhill. Also those particular Cat engines were the first in a line of marinised 6 cylinder units which I know had some early probs so an engine survey is a must
How old is she and how many hours? She looks nice but maybe a bit pricey?

Yes,

Colvic Hulls. I also thought that the woodwork of the interior was done by a yard in Cornwall...that also fitted out some larger Tremletts. Not sure who did the engines and systems.

I have seen a fifty foot one of them and although the design is dated, they seem to have aged well so probably a good quality build of GRP and Fit out.

Interesting in your mates thoughts afterwards..

Penton Hook marine sales also have one, I delivered it there as a favour last year (Thames only).

Needs a bit of love but worth a look if you are comparing models.

That certainly looks v nice!

I shall be in Cardiff sometime next week if you want me to have a look?

Any excuse to have a nose around a boat /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks Sneds,
He's planning taking a look himself on his way down to Wales from the Midlands on Fri......
It was more of a question of.......
Has anyone heard of this make etc!
Cheers

Yup, as others have said, colvic mouldings. The other big brand name for a builder that used these mouldings (and the later colvics) is Sunquest, so price wise your mate might want to check out used Sunquests, for comparison

I think the same moulds were also marketed by a company under the Sealord brand. All are Colvic moulds as already said but the fit out differs between the brands.

This is always going to be a difficult boat to sell. In my opinion it needs to be a good 25-30% below a mainstream production boat of the same size and year. You can buy mid 90's Aqudron 43s for around £120k now. The 446 doesnt say which year, but the design is early to mid 90's, and has a sort of princess copy look about her.

£150k, in my opinion, is too much for that boat. If you mate is comfortable with that king of money go for a really nice Squaddy 43 (and save some cash) or you will get a Princess 440. Much better residually and a more certain quality. The Admiral could be good value, but in reality it should be sub £100k and that is a pill I soubt the owner will swallow.

UPDATE!

Many thanks for all the replies.......
Due to the content of these replies my mate has decided to kick this prospect into touch and continue to search for one of the "more" popular brands.....
Great forum this and ideal for exactly this sort of thread.
Cheers all.

Agree with that. IMHO, the Admiral is a late 1990's build but it does look a bit dated and can't be compared with similar age boats from Fairline, Princess etc. Yup, unfortunately for the owner, I think you're right, £100k is about fair especially with those weedy engines

Looks good IMHO. Nicely fitted out as far as you can tell by photo's alone (You know what they're like!!)

But at that money, a Princess/Broom/Fairline etc would be the sensible choice for residuals...

FURTHER UPDATE!

My mates interest has been somewhat rekindled in the knowledge that the vendor is shall we say.....MOTIVATED!

Hence if anyone can add to this thread please feel free to add away?

Thanks
