FBA New Boat

Well not really new, but hasn't appeared much on the webcam. They replaced the old boat they use for sampling the water from last year but had some problems with the new one so it wasn't a straightforward changeover. Now the passenger ferry has stopped for winter they seem to be mooring it on the ferry landing.

Have to say, the old one looks much nicer. Is the new one unpainted aluminium?

It appears to be. I had wondered if they would be flogging the old one, but I don't have the sort of spare money they would want.

Looks choppy out there today. 'Velia' looked much nicer without the windscreen thingy, added late 70's I think.

Yet a mile away up the lake it's very still. Belle Isle is sheltering us.
If you watch the ferry coming in now it's crabbing across the wind.

That windscreen would soon give way to a bit of nail-bar action.

Often thought it would be nice to take on Velia when she's retired, although the blokes I knew at ferryhouse have all been redeployed elsewhere (or retrenched) unfortunately. Quite a piece of history, built at Borwicks early 50's ? Lets hope she continues to be kept in good nick.
