The good news its running from 6pm this evening for the Fireworks.

Bad news, apparently it needs two - one each side - safety boats/escorts. Really can't make this up. Its an embarrassment to IW, an embarrassment to British design, an embarrassment to Welsh boat building. .

Do we know what for? I can't see how they would help prevent it grounding, so is there yet another problem going on?

Its not a grounding problem - the prow is broken.

I assume they are unable to raise/lower the prow. Apparently the MCA have been to inspect it. Total speculation on my part, I guess they have been allowed to operate with the door down for one night, providing they have these escort boats. Perhaps on the basis that if someone falls in the escort boat can pick them up. There is a second barrier, so passengers can't get anywhere near the doors when underway.
