Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search which returned nothing:-

We have managed to get Nokia Data-Suite working to the Lap-Top OK, with a few niggles, for email & limited Web-Surfing (mainly E-Banking use)

Having had to chase o2 (previously Cellnet) about a few ‘technical data things’, we now find we have a voice, data and Fax No’s associated with the mobile phone.

Can anyone advise how/if/why it might be possible to send/receive faxes to the boats PC/printer via the mobile phone?

I haven't been able to send a fax since Windows 95 when it was an option under 'print' and so easy. I've not done it but there are agencies that will convert your e-mail to fax and vice-versa and I guess they charge as well. So stick with e-mail is the answer.

I use WinFax Pro on a Dell laptop. Used to use the Nokia data suite but now use a later Nokia that plugs straight into the serial port on the laptop.

Running windows 95 & can send & receive faxs no problem in UK & France. Print out no problem. Would need a scanner to input anything you cant create on the laptop.

Dont know if this software is still available but i am sure something is. Point is you need extra software above what win95 offers to make it all work (+ patience of course).

As you know we've had a PC on board for several years.

Using a Nokia 6110 0r 5110 and the Nokia Data Suite 2 or 3 which creates a software modem, we then use this to send and receive faxes. You need to tell your phone service provider that you use faxes as they have to supply an extra number, but only for their purposes, so that you can recive a fax.

We have done hundreds of faxes either from Microsoft Works, Winfax Pro which gives hundreds of cover pages or Bitware Fax. It is as simple as typing up what you want to send, change default printer to the fax one and press the send button; phone book comes up either select existing number or add the new one, press OK and then send and away it goes. Have renewed Insurances, dealt with Bank, Buliding Society etc.etc.

If you want more details send a PM as we are back here until 30th.March before back to carry on repairing the boat.
