Favourite Restuarants - accessible by Boat from East Coast

Had a good eat at reasonable prices in the 'Harbour Lights' at Titchmarsh on Sunday evening but when did the place go all designer? Really bright with white LED lights, a white baby grand piano playing itself (needed turning down too).

Good pint of Speckled Hen too.

Chip shop in Brightlingsea near the harbour is always a must for us when we need to eat on a visit. Back home in Burnham, the Contented Sole has changed hands and is now 'the Soul'. Reports from friends say the food is excellent and the prices look reasonable from pressing my nose up against the outside menu.

Plus we like Rio's Tapas Bar in the High Street - just about opposite the Baptist Church. Recommended it before and got subsequent posts saying it wasn't authentic Tapas. Not sure about that but it's excellent value, the choice is wonderful and everything tastes good.

Personally we like Winkies fish and chip shop at Brightlingsea, rather that the one at the front. It has a licensed restaurant if you want to eat there.

Probably the two best fish & chippies in the area are Scooby's at Brightlingsea and Henley's at Wivenhoe, both of whom have won national prizes. Unfortunately, neither is an easy walk from the boat.

The best fish I've had was at the Ferryboat Inn at Felixstowe Ferry, which was local line-caught cod. We had the same from the nearby shack (with mugs of tea only) but as it has changed hands I can't speak for it's current performance.

If you are talking fish and chips then Starfish on the old Wherstead Road in Ipswich (just south of the Coop store) takes some beating (or should that be battering - OK, I'll get me coat!)
Some of the best fish and batter I've tasted (and I've tried plenty - just check my 'figure'!). Will cook fresh to order with a phone call.
Also does something that I find surprisingly rare. He wraps the chips seperately from the fish so the steam doesn't make the batter soggy. Simple but effective.
Within walking distance of the Haven and driving distance of there and Fox's.
I'm off to find something to eat as I feel hungry all of a sudden!
