Dear IPC website manager

Why has good old YM gone American? Indeed on all the forums there's a click that invites us to pick our "favorite" site. IPC publish British magazines, using English spelling. So why the Americanism on the web site? We still spell favourite with a u over here (for the time being).

Yours etc

Pedant

Oops...sorry Adrian. Could claim we are tring to make our North American users feel at home but bottom line is software was written 'over there' and we missed that one when processing through the purity mill.

We'll get it corrected as soon as we get a mo(ment).

Nice one, Ken! And on the subject of water ...

What on earth is 'organic' water? (spotted in Sainsbury's yesterday).

So now organic = inorganic. How's that for dilution of the language?

Organic water

is the one with the bacteria, plastic bottle solvents, antibiotics, farm run-off, etc. A programme on TV a couple of years ago indicated that many bottled waters have huge organics contents by comparison with mains water. Not counting their sodium content, of course. The best water in UK, from every contaminant and taste point of view, came out of taps in Manchester.

Sad fact is that now the English language is the posession of Bill Gates and Microsoft.

If Word Spellcheck says "color" its color.

Don't know how to fight it, perhaps we ought to go MAC in protest

...ummm - big Mac fans here in the tower, myself included. But Mac have recently upset a lot of Brits by ducking the issue of certain UK English OS words and insisted, for instance, that we throw everything in the <trash>. A Windows <Recycle Bin> seems almost Home Counties in comparison.

All of that said, we'll endeavour to add in the essential 'u's if found missing...you should see your favorites become favourites 'ere long. And I'm absolutely sure that the magazine journalists here won't let their 'u's slip round the bend...

Maybe apocryphal but...

...it's rumoured that when the US first became involved in meeting and escorting convoys in WW2 (you know, the 42-45 one) the USS destroyer leading the escort aldised the Convoy Commodore:

"Wecome. Follow me into harbor"

The reply flashed back:

"Thank you. Strange way to spell harbour"

In a life where little has gone right, buying a Mac is one of the biggest and most expensive mistakes I have made.
