Thinking of visiting Faversham next weekend from the Orwell. Any suggestions as to where to berth, hints 'n' tips. 27 ft and 1m draft, sailing. I have a copy of Faversham Creek Navigation Guide but it's dated 2001.

Try the Iron Wharf Boat yard,They have alongside berths and are closest to the town centre. Is a bit of a trek up the creek but worth it ,otherwise Testers boatyard or Young Boats at the top of Oare creek.

If by "next weekend" you mean this coming weekend, it's not far off Springs. You might be able to get right up to the top. Last I was there, you wouldn't find water by the pontoon outside the pub on the right, but might be able to tie up to the wall opposite.

East Coast forum might give good advice.

Take it slowly & gently on a rising tide, feeling your way and nudging the mud.

Try going up well before high tide and you will be able to see exactly where the channel is. At the top of springs the saltings will be covered with water and it can be difficult to see the channel. Some friends of mine found this out by bitter experience having run aground on a cow pat and been stuck there for three days. At least the pub did some good business.

Nav Guide for 2001 probably is near enough.
Going to Iron Wharf, give 'em a ring first.
Further up, the staging in front of the pub on the right; or another 50 yards on, just upstream of the ancient Customs cutter hulk, the short 'town quay' to port just before the fixed bridge.
You will (obviously) dry out wherever you go in Faversham or Oare Creeks.
More picturesque, there's Oare Creek....might get a berth at Testers at the entrance to the creek, or there's a Youngboats visitor berth half-way up, or with your draught go all the way to Youngboats yard at the head of the creek, 2 good pubs up there. Give Terry Young a ring first. Follow your echo-sounder up the creek to the first visitor berth (the channel starts on the port side of the creek for the first quarter-mile, on round the right-hand bend by the tug, then wanders out towards the centre by the time you get the left-hand bend, then beyond the visitor berth there are withies.
Would meet you but should be down at Ramsgate! Unfortunately most of Hollowshore Club will be at a lunch down there and the clubhouse (in Youngboats yard) will be closed just for this particular Sunday.

Thanks all. Cantata to the rescue again! Will have 13-y-o crew so I think the bright lights of Faversham beckon. I have to balance ditch-crawling with stuff like swimming pools, cinemas, pizza places! Aiming to go up Saturday pm tide, may have to be Sunday.

Not sure that Faversham's bright lights are what you'd want for your 13-y-o!! The place is mostly pub-oriented really.
Hopefully the notes will help. There are of course more pilotage details and photos available but I can't divulge everything on here!

Weather not looking to good for Saturday afternoon down this way. Gib Point to N. Foreland SW-ish 5-6, 7 at times, and N.Foreland to Selsey says 8 at times in the east.
Not encouraging but I'll wait and look out of the window in the morning!
