As i am so close to lining the boat out i am now on to looking at what to go for to cover the ply.

I am not keen on the Faux leather/ette and more drawn to the Faux Suede as in this link below, feels warmer and less chance of condensation although the boat is fully insulated at bestto reduce that problem. I am going to pop over to get a sample soon as they are not far from where i live so i can see actually what it is like first.

Question is has anybody on here used this one before or similar spec to it as i see it is lined on the back of the foam inner.

Hated it, difficult to keep clean. IMHO encouraged mildew and made the boat darker than it needEd to be.

We went for a lightly grained foam back PVC and have no regrets.

Getting 50/50 thoughts on this suede.

I have just called the company in the link above as a chap who is a upholstery cleaner has said that i would be better getting a make called Alcanatra as it is a better quality and keeps clean easier. The company said that the suede they sell it is made from the same materials as the Alacantra which is a blend of polyurethane and polyester.

I need to look into this a bit more yet i think.

If need be i will go with a leatherette.
 
I would say dont bother with hessian, I had a fletcher faro cabin lined with this , it got water marks on it when it got damp and grew mould like there was no tomorrow probably because its plant fibres.

The chaps that suggested it said they painted it anti condensation paint, what ever that is, i am about to look if there is such a thing, so that could be the way to solve that problem.

The stuff your chap is recommending is Alcantara not Alcantra, which is a hardwearing, high quality, ie expensive, fabric used to trim cars, boats, etc. The seats on my old Lancias were Alcantara, and started showing wear at about 80K miles. It would be a waste to use it for headlining, but probably good for berth cushions.

I would choose something that is mould and mildew resistant and bleach cleanable. Try looking at the range of yacht fabrics at Sunbrella or give Kayospruce a call and ask their advice (they are a friendly and helpful company).

In my opinion it's one of those things that is really not worth trying to do cheaply. Foam backed does not sound ideal to me; even if it was free it would not be for me.
 
I used van lining stretch carpet on the hull sides (over a layer of insulating foam) and vinyl over a sort of felt fabric for flat panels. The vinyl was nice but it showed every lump and bump so when I needed to cover raw grp I used foam backed vinyl which smoothed out any surface imperfections.
