I have a 6 spoke stainless Lewmar wheel fitted to my Harmony 34.
Three of the spokes have now failed where they are welded to the centre hub. I have e-mailed Lewmar's UK office, but they don't reply.
Has anyone else had this problem with a Lewmar wheel and does anyone know of the best way to solicit a reply from them?

The wheel has been in use since April 2008 and doesn't seem fit for purpose in it's manufactured state.

Many thanks
CJ

Lewmar have made a name for themselves in terms of non-customer service.

There is a general feeling around the industry that this company is very close to the edge, so I would pursue your claim sooner rather than later. You may well need to press pretty hard.

I had very good service from Lewmar a couple of years ago - a clutch rebuilt and returned within 2 days at a reasonable cost. No idea about wheels though......

I have just had faultless and excellent assistance from Lewmar this last week, all done via email while cruising South Brittany.
Send an email to this guy, attach a photograph if you can.

I had a lewmar wheel fail in the same way after it was a few months old. The boat was new and it took ages for Portway (now defunct - ;-) ) to sort it out. Once Lewmar heard about it they were happy to replace as they new they had had a bad batch.

We had the same issue.

Spoke to Lewmar and they sent a new wheel the following day.

Said they had a tooling issue with a batch of wheels.

Suggest you give them a call rather than email.

Cheers

Had similar problem with 42" 5 spoke wheel.in the middle of the welland gas field....all welds broken!!, managed to bodge it enough to get to Aberdeen....spoke by phone to Lewmar...Express delivered to Aberdeen overnight.....apparently had tooling problems about 3 yeaqrs ago....By he way, all done under warranty.....Full marks Lewmar!

Actually, your first contact should be with your supplier as your contract is with them. However if Lewmar is prepared to deal direct with you then OK.

I am having the same problem with my wheel on my bavaria 33 i shall look into it next week. i have had it welded once but the welds only broke within a few months.

Footnote

By way of an update, a new wheel was supplied by Lewmar without hesitation. Was invited to either keep the repaired one as a spare or just scrap it.
Great outcome and a huge relief.
