Anyone doing it? Finishes in Cherbourg but France regards UK as an Amber country with PCR tests/double jags/etc. as a requirement for entry with 7 days quarantine a possibility. There doesn't seem to be anything on the Rolesfastnet site on the subject.

One could cross the line at Cherbourg & not land. I believe that some boats have proposed adopting this strategy, returning straight home instead.
Dunno about double Jags. Perhaps if one could declare 2 Renaults instead, that might qualify.

But then you would have to fill in a passenger details form, fly yellow flag and self isolate for 10 days if you return to Blighty - unless of course you are part of a Tory party non-isolation trial.
But whilst one has sailed into French waters, one has not actually landed. Aeroplanes that fly over French air space, but do not land, are not classed as landing in France. What happens if a yacht is sailing in the Channel & crosses the French border for a short while when tacking? ie Dover Strait to avoid shipping. Does one have to self isolate then?

According to the Coastguard announcements we get with every forecast, the relevant action is entering an English port. It doesn't seem to matter where you've been. We also get warned of £10,000 fines for non-conformance

Not doing it, but the people I know who are mostly intend to finish in Cherbourg and then just sail back across the channel without stopping. Just hoping for there sake that the finish doesn't coincide with a nasty Northerly... There are a large number of French boats registered, I gather most of them plan on sailing across the day before the start and spending the night at anchor in the Solent. One assumes that RORC has the best available advice on the legality of these 2 plans....

I understand the reasons for the shift to Cherbourg for the finish, but the timing has been unfortunate....

But if you have not been anywhere, other than at sea?
If it did mean a fine, then just going for a sail would be illegal on that basis.
I am not arguing, just asking the questions & I am sure that those organising the race must have looked into the matter. Edward Heath would have sorted it favourably :D-- Just would not have had any shore power when you got back :rolleyes:

Perhaps due to this problem they should move the finish to a UK location?
I don't know, Plymouth or somewhere?
Are the EU boats allowed into the Uk & then freely return to the EU without any isolation periods.
I suppose if the French anchor & row ashore in rubber dinghies, border force will put them up for the night FOC.

Was it not because the facilities at the existing venue were so bad?
As far as Cherbourg is concerned it is only UK boats that cannot land ( they can but with certain conditions attached) So there is still a few EU boats likely to turn up

We are departing France on Sunday then 10 days quarantine, three tests as we are hoping to pass the Day 5 early release test, but still need to do the Day 8 one

Friends who arrived from France without doing to pre departure test were fined £500 each. You try proving that you did not leave the boat!

RORC; no stopping in Cherbourg if you don't want to quarantine. Free beer in Cowes at RORC instead!

Back in the day, I worked with a chap who had previously been a Customs and Excise Officer. His comments on what his powers were, 'with 300 years of history we had an awful lot of powers backed by a huge amount of legislation'. I strongly suspect the Border Force retained those powers.

Back in the day, I worked with a chap who had previously been a Customs and Excise Officer. His comments on what his powers were, 'with 300 years of history we had an awful lot of powers backed by a huge amount of legislation'. I strongly suspect the Border Force retained those powers.
It is amazing how many officials, in all walks of life, think that they have powers, which when challenged, one finds that they do not.
