Organisers having delayed the start by 25 hours I now see that the weather is starting to take its toll.

"Strong winds and short steep seas are taking their toll on the 271-boat Rolex Fastnet fleet, with approximately 90 boats retired as of 1100 BST.
Boats have been streaming into Plymouth the race finish and other ports along the Devon and Cornwall coastline after they elected or were forced to retire and head for shelter. For some boats it was not so much the wind, but the accompanying sea state that was proving exhausting for the crews."

Sensible chaps. If you are out there, not enjoying it, and begining to feel that it is dangerous, why not head home? I would be.

On the other hand, if you are out there, enjoying it and feel that it is under control, why not keep going. It is all down to how individuals feel about it.

Perhaps the skipper decided to put the transponder in his car and head off home!

There was another that took the overland route across the Lizard /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Perhaps that one has gone to see his mistress, rather forgetting his wife is following his progress on the website. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Fastnet positions
This shows the positions of the boats and their trip history if you like. One boat appears to have headed overland to London shortly after the start..........
