A 30 minute Southern Television documentary which follows the skipper and crew of Zulu, as she competes in the 1965 Fastnet Race.

Quality not so good because of multiple format changes from the original film. Ocean racing as it used to be!

COI: my father is one of the crew onboard

Welcome to the Forum Tim and thank you for the videos.

The Zulu I know is a Nicholson 476.

You're both right! I believe Brian Stewart sold the original Zulu (as seen in the film) in the 1980s and transferred the name to his new Nicholson. She was then re-named Cetawayo

Thank you for posting those; quite fascinating and very nostalgic. Apart from the sailing, there were so many images which have now disappeared - parking in London for one!

Excellent stuff. I've forwarded a link to my dad, because he is the "Yachting Advisor" mentioned in the closing credits! He used to work for Southern TV quite a lot, on yachting programmes and did several big ocean races, including the Fastnet and the Sydney-Hobart.

I love the idea that they weren't allowed to use radar or Decca "because it would make things too easy" :)

Thanks for posting it.

The last time I saw her was a few years ago when she was stuck at low tide in the lagoon at the Glénan islands. Still called Zulu. The owner was pleased that I was able to identify her as a Nich 476 but I had remembered the name from a YM test several years before. It's an easy one to remember. Cetewayo stays in the tradition - for Wilbur Smith fans!
