I was just reading the new article posted here.

I found the following excerpt a little confusing:

"The company’s chief executive, Phil Popham, said his company was making one of the boat models every week.

“We’re building round about 40-42 a year. We sold all we built last year and we’ve got orders going into the second half of this year.

“Every five days there’s another one coming online.”
"

Is it one a week? i.e. 52 per year

or is it 40-42 per year?

or is it 73 per year? i.e. one every 5 days

No matter which it's good to hear and great news for Sunseeker assuming they are making some profit on each boat.

One boat coming online every five days does not imply they complete one every five days merely start fabrication!!!

5 day working week, 46 week working year = 46 boats. If they're actually making 40-42 a year, that's surely close enough to describe it in approximate terms as one a week?

42 boats in 46 weeks is just under 5.5 days per boat, so maybe he was just rounding it down for conversational purposes?

To the OP though, which model was he talking about?

Do they actually shut the business for a set summer break like the Italians? I haven't met many companies that do that in the UK.

I read that in the article wrong. Having said that if you start one every 5 days, you would have to finish one every 5 days or production is not sustainable as you'd slowly fill up with work in progress.

Whichever you cut it though, 40 Pred 57's a year is a blimmin good run rate.

PS sorry - I should have just read the article myself, I missed the link in your first sentence.

Totally agree, it's a lot of boats. Before lurking on this forum and reading some interesting threads about the boat industry I would have immediately thought these were boats sold to end users but I guess the reality is some of these could be sat at dealers and not really what I would call "sold".

I've no idea how they set their holidays, but manufacturing companies normally like to have fixed shutdowns to avoid key people being off whilst the factory is running.

I'd guess 2 weeks at xmas, a week at Easter, and 3 in the summer, or something similar.

Has anyone on here got one (or had the older predator)?

I was thinking last night about how print magazines are often described as on the wane because of online forums such as this that provide excellent information, but not sure that even this popular forum has enough diversity to replace the print mag (might find we quickly succumb to group-think), and where are all these sunseeker predator owners?
