Eat your heart out, Pershing 115 turbine owners.
You can't beat jumping on a 737 in Milan, leaving Genoa at 450kts or so, and reaching Cagliari in less than one hour...! :D

And since as we all know the Med weather is always perfect, you can take some nice pics along the way from FL330.
The route was along the W side of Corsica, but I won't tell you more, giving to the Med experts around here a chance to "spot the spots".
Checking on google maps is not allowed, though. I might ask more details about the places to cross check! :p

Pic1:
Ok, since I told that the trip was from Genoa to Cagliari, it doesn't take a lot to guess that this is Genoa, so no virtual cigar for the first pic.

Pic 2 and 3:
This is a bit harder, so in order to help spotting the beautiful island visible at some distance, I'll throw in also a pic showing also the coast nearby.
Along which btw there is a small but beautiful marina, visible at the bottom of pic3, which anyone who might have visited surely didn't forget.

Pic4:
An easy one now, I'm sure many SoF boaters have been around here...:

...And the same goes for this other place...:

...As well as for this one:

Pic7:
This small island is instead tricky to guess, also because I'm cheating a little bit. :o
Btw, I'd be interested to hear from anyone who might have been there.
In fact I haven't, but I heard that it's a real jewel, and with beautiful dives around it.

For the remaining pics, there's nothing to guess because it's pretty obvious that they were taken upon landing, so Cagliari it is, of course.

This is Poetto Marina, whose location is the nicest of the city, right behind Cape Sant'Elia, surrounded by crystal clear waters:

Mind, not that decent water is too far away also from the marinas located within the commercial harbour...:

Another view of Cape Sant'Elia, but on the other side (looking north):

Finally, here's Cagliari downtown, right before landing, with some superyachts in the main harbour:

I hope you enjoyed the virtual flight as much as I did with the real one! :)

MM, that must be one of the most misleading thread titles for some time!

I guess one of the pics must be Cinque Terre (REALLY loved the place, but don't remember the village names :( ) other than that I've got no idea :D

have fun!

cheers

V.

Well I had to cheat and use google maps (I thought you might have been heading over to the FDC?), did you feel like a tourist taking photos from the aeroplane windows while all the others were reading the paper or asleep ;)

Beaut photos btw

Thanks folks, glad you liked the pics.
Actually, they were taken with a Android phone which I was using for the first time to take pics, and I must say that I didn't expect such decent (well, almost) results...

Anyway, no mars bar for anyone so far, I'm afraid.
So, I'll throw in some hints, also because I must admit that I purposedly mixed the order of the pics along the route... :o
In fact, while flying South from Genoa to Cagliari along the W coast of Corsica, you would see the spots in pic 4, 6 and 5 - in this order.
The spot in pic 2 and 3 is in fact after them all, and it's already in Sardinia.
Oh, and pic 7 was actually taken during another flight - I did say that I was cheating a bit, didn't I...? :)
In fact, it's in the Tuscan archipelago, near Elba island.

I must remember to take a good wake shot pic by then! :)

You bet mate!

Anyway I think you have Scubaman with you guys this year so hopefully we can look forward to a great picture thread.....perhaps with Kivi's photograph skills (and yours of course P) competition will see some great results, both above and below the water :)

Yep, I'm sure that Scubaman will raise the bar of the FDC pics & clips, compared to last year.

Re. spotting the spots, obviously the Antibes gang must be very busy doing nothing at all around the Med...
I was sure that they would have recognised at least the bays along the Corsican coast, but they are probably taking a holiday from the forum as well! :)

You know, we must give a break also to the weather gods occasionally, just to keep them motivated! :D
But jokes aside, I usually don't even look at forecasts for more than 2-3 days max, around here.
And I really trust them only for the next day, for cruising purposes - not that they never failed miserably also within a 24 hours outlook, anyway...
For longer horizons, tossing a coin is as reliable as listening to the meteorologists, imho.

Haha yes. holiday from forum. Many of Antibes gang are actually still in Corsica now, returning this weekend. I'm back in London for a few days before returning to SofF next week

Nice pics!
Pic 3 is Isola Asinara, on the NW corner of Sardinia (I notice you have placed the pictures not in order, to confuse us!).
Pic 4 - same place, and the marina at bottom of picture is the lovely Marina Isola rossa
Pic 5 is Ajaccio, but picture is "west up". You were on starboard side of the 737! So the left marina (actually the western one) is Tino rossi, where I was berthed 3 weeks ago, and the right hand marina is the other one called Orto or something. Ajaccio airport is at bottom of picture (at east end of the bay)
Pic 6 is Scandola nature reserve, also west up. Porto is at bottom left of picture, not very visible. Gargalu passage at top of pic, 1/3rd from left. I was there 3 weeks ago but chickened out and sailed around the outside becuase of my fin stabs and the rocks - I did the inside passage in my Sq58. MRC did the passage in his Manhattan 70 last week and said it was a VERY close thing! The beautiful little anchorage of Girolata is 1/3rd down and 1/3rd from right of your picture
Pic 7 is a cheat because you cannot have taken that picture on this flight. It is isola Pianosa (so called becuase it looks like grand piano) and you are looking at its east coast. I have driven past it, close down the W costa when on passage from Elba down to Port Vecchio, and tbh I wouldn't bother making any trip/cruise to see Pianosa. It is flat, barren looking, no nice beaches if I recall correctly, and I think (but not sure) that anchoring and landing is controlled/prohibited, a bit like Monte Cristo

LOL, spot on for everything of course, including the airplane seat... :D
I knew it wasn't a big challenge for yourself, even without the hints.
In fact, you must have missed my previous post #10, where I already disclosed the right order and also the Pianosa trick.

Having not heard from you recently, I suppose you didn't venture further South up to my latitudes - or not yet, anyway - correct?
I guess that also Nick_H followed my suggestion to stick to the North of Sardinia, having only 10 days.
Or is he one of those still hanging around Corsican coasts?

Hi Mapis.
Indeed, I didn't read post #10, LOL, though i see now it gives the info I mentioned :D.

I only got down as far as Lavezzi this year I'm afraid. I didn't yet have time to visit even N Sardinia, let alone south. Right now Nick H and A+K are cruising bottom of Corsica and Madellenas, and I dont think they plan to get to south Sardinia but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I'm planning to go to Corsica again next week but it has to be a quick trip so as to be back in CDA for Cannes boat show prep weekend 7+8 september, so I will not get as far as Sardinia. Next year perhaps!

Yeah, I understand it's a long trip, with so many other nice places much nearer to your home port.
Will you be at Cannes for the whole week of the boat show?
I will be arriving from Toulon with Bart on BA, hopefully we'll have an opportunity to catch up.

Ah, it would be nice to meet up. I'm planning to be at Cannes on day 1 (Tuesday), plus the Friday (including the evening party), and some of the Saturday/Sunday. I'll likely take Match back to Antibes after the show closes, perhaps 7-8pm on the sunday evening. I plan to come back to London on the Wednesday+Thursday. Does that link up with your plans?
