I stand corrected

There are fewer Jocks in govt than I thought. A list (provided I can copy and paste sensibly):

• Dr Lynda Clark QC (Edinburgh Pentlands) - Advocate General for Scotland
• Gordon Brown (Dunfermline East) - Chancellor of the Exchequer
• Douglas Alexander (Paisley) - Minister for the Cabinet Office and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster
• Adam Ingram (East Kilbride) - Minister of State (Armed Forces)
• Dr Denis MacShane (born Glasgow) - Minister of State (Europe)
• Desmond Browne (Kilmarnock and Loudoun) - Minister of State (Minister for Work)
• Ian McCartney (Makerfield) - Minister without Portfolio & Chair of Labour Party
• Yvette Cooper (born Inverness) - Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Office of the Deputy Prime Minister)
• Nigel Griffiths (Edinburgh South) - Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for Small Business and Enterprise)
• Anne McGuire (Stirling) - Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Scotland)
• Tony Blair (born Edinburgh) - Prime Minister, First Lord of the Treasury and Minister for the Civil Service
• Dr John Reid (Hamilton North and Bellshill) - Secretary of State for Health
• Alistair Darling (Edinburgh Central) - Secretary of State for Transport and Secretary of State for Scotland

There are probably some in the Lords as well, but I didn't get that far

Apparently Ian McCartney is going to be given a much bigger role soon.

He sort of reminds me of Himmler .. so I reckon he could be TB's right hand man as Home Secretary?

if it hadnt been for maggie we would be ruled by the likes of red robbo and arthur scargill now, she brought this country kicking and screaming into the 20 th century and no matter how much you chatterati try to pour scorn on us it is people like me and other entrepeneurs that put our money, our houses and our energies on the line to generate the wealth that the people that are in power use to pursue their misguided social engineering policies. furthermore said policies usually end in failure because the recipients of our wealth dont care about the consequences of their actions and so squander it. at some point in time the creators of wealth leave or find out a way of not handing over their hard earned wealth, revenues drop and the chatterati are left wondering what went wrong. and all that before we go on about the destruction of the checks and balances that is ongoing at this present time.
if all you can come up with is silly name calling in a political argument it says a lot about the size of your brain and the use or not of it

The pot calling the kettle black

Whilst I agree that Fatipa’s earlier remarks were a little over the top it doesn’t help the argument for you to resort to name calling in an attempt to discredit his comments. You have simply resorted to the very thing which you are accusing him of.

FWIW I too would put myself in the category of putting my house, energies etc etc into creating some of the wealth of this country. However, I simply do not agree with your analysis. Thatcher did some good (and I hate to admit it!) but she also did a lot of damage
to this country. Mass unemployment, the devastation of much of our manufacturing industry (have you ever heard John Harvey Jones on this subject?) and the growth of the “Me, Me, Me” culture.

The Tories were thrown out because of sleaze, greed and people’s unwillingness to listen to them any more. You seem to have forgotten that.

Joe

Well said Brian, FWIW I consider this current executive to be well to the right on the political spectrum of any goverment we have ever had. However that is incidental. The current constituional situation is grave and the deception, whether in good faith or intentional, of Parliament and the British people needs a full independent enquiry ... no matter the colour of the government.
I fear though that the lack of a credible opposition has led to the current impasse.

"if you extracted all the brain matter from the entire Tory party it would hardly reach the half brain measurement mark on the side of the measuring jug."......

this might not be name calling per se, but its pretty damn close!

<hr width=100% size=1>I like work - it fascinates me. I could sit and look at it for hours!

<<I think if you extracted all the brain matter from the entire Tory party it would hardly reach the half brain measurement mark on the side of the measuring jug.>>

that one !!
i am a member therefore you are name calling !!
you go on about working class but that sort of thinking went out years ago,
for your info i lived in a council house on one of the biggest estates in wrexham, i worked down the pit where i served my time as a fitter, i left school when i was 16
i am a self made man and bloody proud of it. i worked overseas and made myself a load of money, i have started 3 businesses, nearly went bankrupt with the first, went back overseas to pay off my debts, made a success of the second which i have recently sold and bought my boat and am making a good living off my third.

<<It's the sort of sneering indoctrinated opinions which people like you hold about the working classes which prevent me from voting Tory. I certainly have never held any of my bosses (by definition capitalists) in the contempt with which your post appears to suggest you hold working class people like myself. >>

so what part of the above applies to me?

Re: The pot calling the kettle black

this is a quote off the fire brigade unions site:

<<Sir John Harvey-Jones replied “I’ve never been against unions, and I have no problems if managers are union members. The more you make it we and they the worse it will be, you earn respect for your ability, it doesn’t matter a damn if people are card carriers.

I have worked with a lot of unions and have seen more constructive reality from the FBU than any other that I have dealt with.

If you think the FBU are a bunch of left wing militants they are not – you are lucky.”

Thanks for your support Sir John Harvey- Jones, it’s a shame the employers and CFO’s didn’t listen to your advice.>>

does that tell us a bit about his politics?

Re: The pot calling the kettle black

And your point?

Or are you saying that if someone's politics don't agree with yours then none of their views are valid?

As an entrepreneur I think that most would agree that JHJ had a lot going for him. He had some very strong views on what Thatcher did to our manufacturing industry.

Joe

and anyway, what would you say

to someone who called you a thieving bastard?
