Farymann Marine Generator Parts/Service

Just discovered the cold snap over winter has taken its toll on my generator.
I was hoping that my engine room heaters would have protected it but after dropping the boat back in the water last week and i was testing all systems today i discovered the generator had sprung a water leak. As this is a single cyclinder diesel i suspect the head and block of the cyclinder is cracked . Water appears to be flowing out the gasket or maybe the block so i assume judging by the look of the engine i should be able to replace the whole cycliner head/cooling system as it sits on top of the unit.
Has anyone got experience in repairing this type of equipment?

I have lost count how many cylinder barrels ive fitted over the years, I use fischerpanda for parts they have most in stock.

Before you buy any parts have the head pressure tested as they crack inside the long stud holes.

I hate these things

I really dislike these gensets. Mine is the 4KWA Fischer Panda with the same engine as you. Mine uses raw water cooling and the anode is also the main manifold for all the water pipes. So when the anode eventually blocks up I will get an overheat problem. When it springs a leak I will drown my genset and possibly sink my boat!

If it ever dies, I think I will chuck it all out and replace with a battery bank and an inverter. I have a spare channel on my battery charger. At the risk of thread creep would that be a good idea?

Is it a difficult job to do yourself?
At present i am considering bolting it to a pallet and shipping it to the service agent in london as there is no agent here in ireland.
