Farewell from Simonjk weatherman? Signature too commercial?

Simon
I for one hope you stay, and the offer to host a weather page surely would only benefit all.
If they still don't like your signature, you could always add "other weather sites available" then it is up to the reader to go waste his/her own time!!
Please keep up the good work, I look forward to reading your weather page if IPC get to see the light.
Rgds

Good news! I'm new here, but have already found Simon's forecasts to be extremely useful and a valuable free resource. I have also noticed several other forum members including links to their business webpages in their sigline. I also find these links interesting. I hope that we can continue as we are - it is always helpful to be able to connect to businesses who may be useful to us and who we come to 'know' by their forum postings.

I find you forecasts very valuable and you help on the forum when given very useful. It is a shame we can't have professionals such as yourself on here helping out.

YBW - please can you ask all the delivery operators, engineers and other professionals that offer their services on here as part of their signature to stop doing so? Seems only fair and consistent.......

Simon provides a fantastic free forecasting service and includes his weblink - so what? Many other posters include similar links.

His advice must increase the traffic on ybw.com, surely something that YBW would welcome?

AN UPDATE TO MY LAST POST MY REPORT TO THE MODS.

I note the below advisory but this facility should also be a means of showing our approval as well as just complaining about a post.
I would like to express my support for Simon and his weather forecast reports.
Maybe if he is advised to reword or re-word the link to a tutorial class. But I feel he should be aloud to have the link to his web site with the weather forecast sheets on.
Others do to their commercial activates. I used to have a link to a historic motor restorer till I recently retired from my position as an Engineer advisory on the board of directors.

I do hope the moderators will re-think this one.

If I had my tinfoil conspiracy hat on, I'd suggest they never had any intention of booting Simon out, but needed to stir up a thread like this in order to be able to respond to the original complaint with "sorry, due to overwhelming user demand..."

The forecasts supplied by Dr Simon Keeling at WeatherSchool on this YBW forum are an excellent source of information which I use. I believe they provide a good balance of predictability in weather forecasting.

I don't find the advertising in his signature blatant and would opine that there are signatures from other regular posters that are much more blatant and obviously designed for a greater advertising effect.

I believe the moderators are wrong in their assessment and should continue to allow Dr Simon Keeling to continue posting with his avatar signature.

Simon - yours is about the only forecast that I have any confidence in.
Perhaps it's the specifics of the others that let them down ? Your forecasts are always well explained and have a "confidence level" that you give - so we know how reliable you believe the figures to be.

You are providing a free service to the general public - all you ask in return is a small plug for the courses that you run. I see this as a fair swap and perfectly reasonable - especially given the dedication to posting on here that you've shown - that is far beyond any seen by other commercial posters.

Perhaps Richard can shed some light on why IPC want you to cease ...

I support Simons posts and am happy with his signature - an exception should be made as the "quid pro quo" for him providing us all with a very valuable free resource.

Wake up YBW. Or perhaps they wish to launch a premium weather service?

Hi all,

Your feedback has been noted. I'm happy for Simon to retain his signature because everyone seems keen for him to keep it as it is.

I did explain this to Simon when the thread was started, but I wanted to let everyone know that we do listen to what you say ...

Thanks,

Laura

thankyou.

The 'Exception' should continue

The "suits" may have a commercial advertiser (who runs courses?) who is objecting to a "free" service.
Conflict of interests.
Who would complain about such a service otherwise?

+1,
Simon is in the true spirit of genuine public service broadcasting, rather than the Met Off, for whom every scrap of meteo information(already paid for by our taxes), must be paid for again by somebody if humanly possible, and is cluttered with intrusive ads.
Simon only asks that you consider his sponsors ads, which are clear of the real info.

We have learnt a lot from his forecasts as Simon's posts are always educational, and vital for our long range cruise planning.
He gets it right too, on skill and a shoestring, which the Met Office, despite it's new IT, often does not.

Improving any boaters Meteo knowledge via his freely given posts, and/or one of his courses, would prevent an awful lot of the 'shouts' the CG get, in the Solent alone.

Ah, good, right call IPC!

This facility + signature is of inestimable value to yachtsmen and the forum!

YBW are there other commercial interests trynig to sabotage this resource?

NB just seen the above post by Laura. I'm glad sense has prevailed. Thanks Laura again.

That's a sound WIN-WIN decision, and I endorse your view.
