My favourite GRP hull cleaner of many years has been got at. Just been doing the cleaning and polishing over the weekend and bought a new bottle of Farecla Hull Cleaner in case we ran out. It came in a new plastic bottle instead of the old tin and said apply with a dry cloth not damp as before. OK so they've changed it and improved it, so let's try this one first - It is hopeless! It seemed like it was just a regular rubbing compound, very hard to use over very large areas and very hard to polish off when dried. Went back to last years stock of the 'old' product and fortunately had just enough to do the job.

So this morning I checked with Farecla, confirmed it has changed (and actually not made by them anymore) and is a straight rubbing compound without the ammonia which the old product had. Apparently this was for Health & safety reasons, Joe Public cannot be trusted to use it anymore. Apparently G7 from Farecla (only available to trade, in 3 kg cans) IS still available and still contains ammonia, it was the basis, of the original cleaner, diluted a bit with water I believe so I'm off to buy a can before this goes the same way.

So be warned, what you see is not what it used to be.

Don't know if you can still get it but I used to use Gumption (pinched from the kitchen). Just as good and quarter the price.

the best hull cleaner you can buy is harpic limescale remover toilet cleaner it mus be the limescale remover the ordinary harpic does not work . it is blue in color you apply with a cloth leave for app. 20 mins then wash off thourolly

Yes I have used this before on waterline yellowing, also Y10 etc. But Boat Pride Cleaner was good for the pre-polish clean since it had enough abrasive in it to rub out small scratches and fender marks, black streaks etc. It just annoys me that they have changed it completely whilst keeping the label description the same. If I had wanted rubbing compound I would have asked for it and anyway I already had some made by them and labelled as such!

I haven't seen that for years! Farecla Boat Pride was ideal because it was a mix of chemical cleaner and light abrasive, perfect for cleaning before putting on the shine.

Go to a camping shop and get Caravan Pride. Its the same thing only less money. Another good cleaner is Autoglym silicon free from car shops.

Thanks I'll try that, though if it is made by Farecla like Boat Pride, they will have changed that as well according to their chemist. Maybe I'll find someone with some old stock.

If you want a straightforward cleaner (no abrasive) try Oxy - made by Orange, not the one made by Vanish.
2 scoopfuls in a bucket of hot soapy water. Just watch that dirt & grime come out.

I don't think I have ever been as impressed with a cleaning product as this.
